When it comes to the issue of politics; I think it's important to define "politics", when it comes to definitions, politics using refers to competing interest groups, and struggle for proper allocation of resources.
The problem is that politics can be vague, there are movements and ideologies, and groups with their own ideals, generally speaking, this can in the long term create instability and can conflict with the ideal of creating, and maintaining, a cohesive civilization.
On the issue of the relationship between the Market, and the Federal Government, there is a lot of tension, many people have conflicting worldviews which prevents this issue from being discussed productively.
However, social issues tend to be much more controversial, and these issues create much less cooperation and understanding, on these issues there is always a struggle for "a larger piece of the pie", and in this current world, there will always be tension between those who believe in liberalism, and those who do not.
Many believe that liberalism doesn't go far enough, and that its promotion of market economics, consumerism, and individualism, is rooted in oppression, and continues to uphold power structures which are heteronormative, cisnormative, and patriarchal.
Obviously, that may seem self-evident, but it's not self-evident, do you need to examine your society for its ills? Of course. Do you need to believe that it is inherently oppressive? The answer to that question is not simple, and I know that by saying that, I am saying something which may make some feel uncomfortable, however, I think it's an important question to ask.
Personally, I believe liberalism is problematic, as it doesn't reflect a society which is concerned primarily with ethics, but rather with profits.
No matter how oppressed you are, or feel, that's not an excuse to give up, because you can't give up, you have to work hard, and be the best person you can be, and that may mean pointing out oppression, but it should never mean, oppressing, or, giving up.
