as a childrens rights activist it really bothers me. if you cared about childrens rights so much, why havent you stopped the corporal punishment beatings of students in schools in america that is still legal in 19 states? in florida, as far as im aware, teachers are not allowed to talk about gay people. however, they allow educators to hit students with wooden paddles. which one is child abuse to you? teaching children that gay people exist, or hitting them on their backsides with gigantic wooden boards? there was a case in florida in which a principal did this to a little girl, to the point where she had bruising. the state attorney deemed this completely legal, despite it not even being allowed in the county it happened in. and yet in florida teachers arent even allowed to talk about gay or trans people without risking losing their jobs? what sense does that make?
child marriage is also legal in the united states. in some states, theres not even a minimum marriage age as long as theres parental consent. wouldnt the "stop them grooming our children" crowd be all over this if they actually cared about the childrens safety? children being forced into marriages with what are usually much older men? is that not grooming to you?
i know this is a very america-centric post (especially coming from a non american), but i see a lot of this attitude from americans and it confuses me. idk why im posting this here really, just something to rant about
