hi to the spacehey community. as someone who's new here, i was wondering what kind of social media habits the userbase has.
personally, i think my use of spacehey will be part of my slowly limiting use of social mediaΒ - i would like to cut down on my usage and by joining a community that has no app, i feel like im less likely to check this platform on my mobile. while i still use facebook and instagram, i definitely would like to slowly eliminate them.
so my question is - does everyone else still use regular social media alongside spacehey? or is this the only platform you use now?

social media was a pretty bad addiction for me. i spent hours a day just scrolling and scrolling and it fueled my depression. eventually i got fed up and just got rid of my phone. now i have a flip phone that can only really call and text but i still occasionally check instagram on my computer. though i probably shouldnt. im a firm believer that social media is like a prison. and i think its incredibly dangerous especially for gen alpha. growing up with filters that can completely restructure your face cant be good. i have so much more to say about it but i realize im rambling lol sorry

I've been thinking about this blog post for a while now ever since I first read it. It made me think about all of the social medias that I use and if I'd be better off not using any of them at all.
I'm active on a fewβTumblr and Twitter mainly. I don't really consider Discord as social media even though it basically is one. Like, it's personally my sole means of contacting people I know in real life, so I don't see it as Twitter 2 or Tumblr 2, but as my Messages which is an app any phone should have.
Anyways, I use SpaceHey alongside the other websites and apps that I use, but I understand using SpaceHey as a means to ween off of social media as a whole. I might do the same because I also like how quiet this site is compared to others. I think I need to get a better feel of the user base though before making that decision, but I like this a lot compared to Tumblr, Twitter, etc.

I liketo think I use no social media, but I've been told YouTube and Discord are social media and I use them daily. But I only use YouTube for music mostly, source for news, and then to watch some funny people. Discord us just fir messaging friends as I never join servers anymore.

I personally have other social media, but on a regular basis, I just disappear from there for months. It's the user behaviour on those apps. Here everything seems much more chill, with less drama and no cancel culture. I also found a 2007 version of youtube, so moving away from main stream socials to here is my plan.
thank you for your comment! i feel like moving away from mainstream social media is my plan, too. i spend way too much time scrolling these days; if my partner didn't live overseas i'd ditch my smartphone all together, i think.

Well if your main communication to our partner is over whatsapp, there are some flip phones that are able to use whatsapp I think. But I'm still myself looking for alternatives too tho.
