The American Republic survived....for now.

Well, I know I'm a couple weeks late, but the American Republic survived on November 8. Because people did what they had to do and got their asses out to vote. Although the Republicans still took back control of the House, it was not a blowout and the Democrats still have control of the Senate and depending on how the runoff in Georgia goes, get an extra seat, weakening Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema's power. The Red Wave that was feared ended up being more like a Red Puddle. The main reason the GOP didn't do as well as they hoped was when the Supreme Court overturned Roe V Wade in June. As expected, this ended up galvanizing women voters as well as the youth vote who were pissed about having their rights taken away and the fear that the Government could do even more harm. Of course, the Republicans still managed to succeed in several parts of the country such as Florida and Texas, but in general it was still a failure for them as most of the candidates backed by Donald Trump went down in defeat.

While this shows that our democracy isn't dead, it's still in trouble. Donald Trump has announced he will run for President again in 2024, even though the Republican Party has, for the most part, moved on from him. And of course, Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis is most likely going to seek the nomination. In my opinion, DeSantis is worse because he's basically just as evil as Trump, but is actually smart. Well, smarter. So that's not a good thing. And of course, Republicans have made voting difficult in several states and have gerrymandered those states so much that even if the majority votes for the Democrat, the Republican will still be the winner.

Anyway, the American Republic survived mainly because the American people did what they had to do and voted, enduring all kinds of Hell just to make sure their voices were counted. Hopefully that's a sign that in the end, We The People are the ones who decide the future of our country.
