on the news, apparently elon musk actually followed through and bought twitter. hear ppl mentioning myspace a lot.
now i don't use twitter and i don't really care, at least not existentially. people say that elon is doing this to protect right wing figures, but twitter was already doing that long before elon showed up. assholes like matt walsh, ben shapiro and libsoftiktok constantly break the TOS, constantly get called out for it, and never recieve any kind of punishment. what's that? they're directly responsible for false bomb threats called to a children's hopsital? b-b-but you gotta give everyone a voice bro!! meanwhile random creators get their entire account removed with no hope of appeal for basically no reason other than some skiddie with a bot didn't like them.
it seems like elon's just trying to put everyone on the same page. or at least that's what he says. i just dont think he realises that when he wants to "give everyone a voice" and says "this platform should be accepting to all", those two things do not mix. i dont think he knows how social media works at all tbh.
my hope is that some of the migrators do some digging and wind up here (not a large amount because that'd be a disaster for both the community and the servers). there are a lot of good ppl out there on twitter who honestly deserve a better platform than the hellsite (derogatory) they have.

i dont use twitter bc its shit (regardless of elon being in chartge) and just makes my anxiety/depression worse, and tbh yeah if people leave it en masse thats a good thing in my book.
my only problem is when they dont bother to learn how their new site of choice actually functions.
a lot of ex twitter users opening a new tumblr account for the first time, for example, dont realise the importance of reblogging things rather than liking them.

As someone who was on twitter for a solid couple of years, yeah. I tended to sit in the corner a block like a lot. :p

Maybe I am paranoid, but I am worried that if a mass exodus happens and, say, a massive intake of people come to Spacehey, we'll have the same issue as before with Myspace nearly 20 years ago in some big buyer taking this website and taking away what makes the website effective

yeah i joke about not wanting twitter to move to tumblr but i don't actually mind them moving there or even here just they aren't like...mean to the users
i genuinely feel like everyone derserves better social media sites
I wish Tumblr didn't have to go so puritan on the adult content ban. Had there been a more mandatory verification system (as required in OF and sites requiring verified identification) instead, I probably would have kept Tumblr and abandon Twitter
