OKAY JUST LIKE BASICALLY EVERYONE IM ALSO EXCITED AF FOR TEARS OF THE KINGDOM HEHEH
There's a lot of discussion surrounding what the possible story might be as well as the possibility of dungeons returning! BOTW was one of my first introductions to the series (along with OOT) but after playing SO MANY of the games I would DEFOO like to see TOTK have some influence from past zelda games in terms of its dungeon design!
I feel like since we've explored BOTW's Hyrule pretty thoroughly, we can be afforded some more direction and linearity in TOTK! I know I'm not the only one hoping to have some more traditional zelda elements come back and looking at other people's thoughts/theories for the sequel makes me pretty certain that the zelda team is defo gonna take notes on what worked and what didn't work in BOTW to make TOTK probably one of THE BIGGEST zelda games EVER
I've seen some discussion on possible dungeon locations and if they do end up returning I want to try and guess where they might be located!
Most Likely:
This is probably the most likely areas that will include dungeons!
- Hyrule Castle/Beneath Hyrule Castle- My reasoning is that basically every Zelda game that had Hyrule Castle had some form of dungeon exploration... I might be wrong since I haven't played through every game yet but from the ones I've gotten through, Hyrule Castle was a MAJOR area before the final boss. The only thing I wonder is how they'll make it feel fresh since we've already gotten through HC in BOTW so I think it's possible new things will be uncovered or we might explore underneath the castle even?? IDK LOL IM NO GAME DESIGNER
- Death Mountain- This one is also pretty straightforward. The official artwork had malice spewing out from the top and in prior games Death Mountain is usually the site for some dungeon. Most likely we'll be investigating and trying to quell whatever is causing it to become so active with malice.
- The area near Rito Village/ The Hebra region- Again, I'm citing the emphasis it has in the offical artwork. It looks like a BIG storm and it'd be super cool if it was like... some ancient dungeon structure that had been unearthed because of the sky islands... I have a soft spot for dungeons that take place in the sky like the City in the Sky from TP...
Possible:
- Korok Forest- It seems that at least the Deku Tree isn't present in Korok Forest during the events of TOTK... it's possible that area was lifted into the sky and I think a cool dungeon idea would be climbing the roots of the tree to get to the top (it could work with TOTK's emphasis on verticality!) Although more likely we'll just find the Deku Tree in a similar role as BOTW (A guy can dream tho...)
- Zonai Ruins/Typhlo Ruins/ Thundra Plateau- I'm bunching these guys together since they're all Zonai related and considering the MASSIVE emphasis TOTK has on the Zonai, a dungeon found at one of these locations isn't too far-fetched!
- Eighth Heroine Statue- This statue is so mysterious.... A dungeon based around the concept of the legend of the seven heroines plus the mysteriously absent eighth heroine would be SUPER cool! Alternatively, Arbiter's Grounds could also be explored but... probably not LOL
Not Impossible, But Unlikely:
- Kakariko Village/Underneath Kakariko- This one is because I keep thinking of the Bottom of the Well from OOT... Imagine having to go underneath Kakariko Village and it's full of ruins and tech from 10,000 years in the past... You get to have an idea of how the Sheikah built the guardians and divine beasts and maybe we get a taste of inventions they weren't able to finish.... It'd be pretty cool!
- The Great Plateau- Now hear me out... It's unlikely the GP will be as important in TOTK so I think an interesting way to make it relevant could be by exploring the area INSIDE the GP... Maybe make it based off the ruins of the Temple of Time... I like the idea of exploring an ancient cathedral or even catacombs underneath the ruins of the temple.
- Underwater Dungeon- I would LOVE for an underwater dungeon to be a thing... This one is unlikely but... i love the idea!
ANYWAYS THOSE ARE SOME THOUGHTS IVE BEEN THINKIN LMAO
