Mom finds out her kid is a cyberbully

I recently came across something disturbing.

So this Mom got a call from her school learning that her daughter has been harrasing her classmate , and gets this..... over shipping.

Mom dug deeper into this and found that her kid was being groomed by a 24 year old woman who ran her own discord around harassing and doxing others over fiction. She also acted inappropriately by exposing minors in said server to sexual content, which is double yikes.

You can read the story here you can use ctrl+f and type throwaway toread the story in chronological order (cw: for suicide and pedophilia mentions)

You know it´s funny, this is the sort thing I´ve been warning people for years, that cyberbullying is a serious issue, regardless whatever reason. Specially when it comes to the whole anti-shipping community.

Seriously I´ve seen too many people end up what is essentially a cult, too many people with proship dnis in their profiles not even knowing what it means, plus oversharing information online, putting other in danger etc...

The worse ones are the adults in that community, who claim to be safe and protectors and are just spreading misinformation about how an actual predator operates.

Which is just how they like it, basically muddle the waters what a predator is, isolate more vulnerable and easily influenced kids by claiming "those other people are dangerous, but not me I´m the safe adult" gain the trust by denouncing loudly against the bad fiction, expose them to example of problematic fiction as a shock tactic to recruit them.

And voilá, now they have a gangle of younger followers ripe for exploitation.

I also lost count of how many of these "safe adults" turned out to be predatory themselves.

Of course this doesn't just apply to stuff like fan online communities, it can pretty apply everywhere, but it is the more infamous ones.

I wish kids took a bit more precaution on who they interact online, because you never know the intentions of strangers.

And also maybe we shouldn´t normalize online harassment, special over such trivial things like shipping? Just saying.

this is so real you have no idea, its impossible to explain to people too because its always "NUHUH YOURE THE PREDATOR" when thats not the case, never mind the fact majority of the proship community are minors... having fun and figuring things out... as minors do

yeah, im glad i didnt have to deal with any of this stuff when i was a teenager, and i got to happily enjoy fandom spaces ( i mean it wasnt perfect, there still assholes but it never this bad)

its kinda sad that kids these days lack a safe space where they can just express themselves, and not get sucked in to what is essentially cult-like awful behaviours or having to deal with online bullies.

i think stopping teaching online safety and basically internet ettiquette to kids was a mistake.

idk that whole "think of the children" mindset is always a red flag to me. this is just the latest iteration of it.

yeah, and notcie its almost always used to justify heinous shit? wether it´s to launch anti-trans laws or harassing artists, or in this case take advantage of kid´s fears to get close enough to them so they can prey on them
