New York City Lights

If you look anywhere in the city,

You'll see cars flying fast to get where it seems to be nowhere
People leaning against pharmacies smoking anything that'll burn
Car horns and chattering in the wee hours of the morning,

As a child growing up in a place like this,
To me, This is what society was supposed to be
Where all that mattered was to be nice to the man on Old National,
And never chew with your mouth open.

Moving away from a place where everything is buzzing and vibrating,
To a place where all you can hear in the mornings are chirping birds is a huge step
You made it all worth it.
The adjusting, the homesickness, the missing family,
Family left in the place that seems to hold all your best childhood memories,
Hoping that family being one of the last things you can trust doesnt turn into one of those memories

Getting used to being referred to "city folk"
And learning how to live in somewhere you heard a man call the countryside
Again, You made it all worth it,
You make me forget where I am,
You make me feel like I'm at home because that's what you are,
Home.

For a while I wanted to give you my heart,
But manage to keep it alive.
Not wanting to trust anyone with it, other than the nice barber on 1st street,
And My grandpa after we'd watch cartoons on mute because he says it sparks imagination
I'm glad he taught me how to spark my imagination,
Now i can imagine our future together in amazing detail.

I never thought I'd be able to call you my own,
Considering the only thing that really mattered to me, at heart,
Were if my favorite colored pencils were in the right order.
I wanna take you back there.

Where everything buzzes and vibrates constantly
Where you always nod at the man on Old National,
Where it's most beautiful at night.
I think you'd look amazing under all the New York City lights
You said you've always wanted to go there
I'd you everywhere and anywhere you like
As long as i can be with you

Long Island, Manhattan, Harlem
Anywhere, If I can watch you smile while you stare at what used to be a dream
This'll take a while, but it's alright
We wont be like the ones who wrap their entire lives around the foot of a cocktail glass,
We'll be the ones with broadway tickets, surprise dates, and 2 am Gas Station Hangouts
Somewhere happy

I was happy here
This place gave me my first taste of happiness and I hope you give me my last
But before we both take out last breath of happiness,
Taking "Till death due us part" Into consideration
I've wanted to show you what was my home before you
I call it New York City Lights
