i'm just writing this here because i wanted to get my thoughts out, idk i don't want to get in an argument abt it
i'm reminded of the fact that the supreme court wasn't always so partisan. rgb, who is seen as pretty left-leaning especially for her time, was confirmed by 96% of the senate. only 53% confirmed ketanji brown jackson.
i think abortion has become the target amongst conservatives because of how polarizing it is, but this isn't truly about abortion.
we've become desperately polarized in our politics in america. conservatives know that they are losing support and they are working the system to rule by minority. support for abortion isn't even that unpopular of a belief. last year 59% of americans supported abortion in at least some cases.
you may have heard that the decision that declared abortion a constitutional right is because of our right to privacy. stripping away our privacy like this is going to put us into a surveillance state.
a while ago i spoke with my grandma and she told me of a friend of hers who had an illegal abortion before roe v wade was passed. her friend almost died. i cannot imagine living long enough to see my grandchildren into adulthood and watch them fight for the same rights that we've been fighting for for decades.
