A small notice about my profile

I've included this in my bio as well for those lucky enough to find it on my profile, however I feel a more upfront notice is probably best. This was written on 16 Apr, 2022, just in case this contradicts anything in the future. I'm also going to include a TL;DR, but I recommend reading the full post.

At the moment, my account is open to everyone, but I'm generally more comfortable talking to people 17 and up. People younger than that are free to friend me, talk to me, and IM me as they like; however, this will be changing in the somewhat near future.

At some point, I will be making my account officially 17+ and unfriending everyone under the age requirement (I may make some very small exceptions if you're turning 17 in, say, a month, but only for the people I'm already friends with). I specify 17+ because I am currently 18, and I feel people just a teeny bit younger than me are okay to hang around. However, I'll probably change my 'profile rating' to 18+ when I'm older.

I want to stress that this will not change anything in relation to my blog. You are free to read my blog posts and interact with them as you please, regardless of age. If you want to comment or subscribe to my blog, that is your choice, and you will always be free to do so. I'll probably never cover explicitly adult topics in any of those posts, and if I do, they'll either be set to friends only or have a very clear warning at the top (depending on how personal the post is to me).

IMs from those under 17 will be okay, but only if it's in relation to my blog, and never for anything other than that. Don't just go 'Hi', as I'll probably ignore you - please specify what it is you're talking to me about. I'm always happy to clarify anything I've mentioned in an entry.

Those much older than me (30+) will always be free to friend me and interact with me. I grew up around the older and elderly, so your presence is more of a comfort than anything else.

If you must know why I'm considering adding an age requirement, it's because I have a really hard time relating to a lot of the stuff people younger than me post. Some of it is really disconcerting to read, too, so I would rather avoid seeing what I don't have to. I don't really post adult content or anything, but sometimes I brush over adult topics (like in surveys) and it makes me feel uncomfortable knowing that someone that young could be reading it.

Obviously I know younger folk aren't some innocent bunch, but I feel like this kind of uneasiness is something you grow into as you get older. I was kinda like y'all when I was younger, so that kind of 'it's not a big deal lmfao' attitude is something I can wrap my head around. This is a boundary I'm going to be setting, and I'd like it to be respected.

I'll make another post (either on my blog or in my bulletins) when I officially make my account 17+.

TL;DR
  • As of writing, my account is absolutely open to everyone.
  • In the not too distant future I will be making my account 17+.
    • When I am older, it will be 18+.
      • This means people 16/7 and under will not be able to friend me, I won't accept friend requests.
    • People 30+ are always free to talk to me or friend me if they would like to.
    • There will be another blog entry or bulletin post when I do make my account 17+, so I won't unfriend with no warning.
  • My blog will always be open to everyone, regardless of age.
    • This means you may read, share, leave kudos or comments on my blog, even if you don't meet my profile's age requirement.
  • IMs are open to everyone, but people under 17 may only IM me if it's in relation to a blog entry, and must tell me what they want.
    • I will not respond to a message from an under 17 if it just says 'Hi' and nothing else, basically.
  • My reasoning for this decision is largely an inability to relate to those younger than me, along with being incredibly uncomfortable with what I see younger teens discuss.
