I can think of no great shock to me to hear that not only a great Brazilian telenovela actor, Sérgio Mamberti, has passed, but to hear that one of my favourite composers, Míkis Theodorákis, has also bit it in the span of 24 hours before Mamberti; it's the latter that I must talk about. Theodorákis was an important force in Greek music (if not world music). His death provides an irreplaceable loss to Greek music and to all music, given that he was responsible for the scores to not only Aléxis Zorbás/Zorba the Greek but to films like Phaedra, Serpico, and my absolute favourite, that for Z (which was made when he was under house arrest during the mercifully short-lived Greek Junta). I can think of no other epitaph than the one I'm about to post: the final credits theme from Z, "To Gelastó Pedí".
Ad Astra, Míkis; ta léme stin Nangigiála/vi ses i Nangijala. (We will see each other in Nangijala.)
