or one could say tribalism vs individualism, i'm not actually sure how i want to address this issue cuz this is one of those things where it's different strokes for different folks when you want to help them understand why you think tribal thinking is dangerous or rather, certain aspects of it as it's natural to be tribal. could you imagine a modern day liberal and conservative stranded on an island together? they'd sooner k!ll each other than work to survive together. and that may actually be the best place to start! lord of the flies was a book exzactly on this topic. the allegory of a group of young men from different walks of life being stranded on an island together. rather than work together they would form into groups one more violent than the other one and gathered around beliefs the other does not share. you can read the book to see how that plays out however, it's what would happen after the book if the boys are never saved that matters here. these young men are now in 2 groups so what would happen next? they'd go to live on separate sides of the island. now let's imagine that on the separate sides of this island they meet women that think like them. well they obviously as time goes by have kids with these women and this is how we get what is recognized as a "tribe". now the issue with tribalism is that it breeds hate for other people based on recognition that they belong to the "other"(keep that word in mind) tribe. these 2 tribes would come to find easy ways to recognize each other that may even be invisible to the naked eye if they're similar enough. weather it be the things they say, an accent, a physical difference that has developed as the tribes grow together there's an obvious problem with this type of thinking. on 1 hand it is something that could protect one out in the wild but, on the other in todays world we don't live out in the wild. so excommunicating others from a tribe based on characteristics makes no sense. and this is where individualism comes in. individualist recognize that people are their own person. they may hate those similar to them they may accept people of all stripes and strides you don't know each person is different unique onto themselves we arent a monolith capable of group think so we shouldn't pretend to be such. individualism as a result leads to multiculturalism it leads to a society that looks at people as equals. (equality vs equity is another topic for another day but that is also an important topic to discuss.) multiculturalism is what our current society is and people with tribal ways of thinking weather they acknowledge it or not do not like that fact and therefor advocate for policies that treat people they see as the "other" different from people that they see as part of their tribe. this is seen on both sides of the political spectrum and it's dangerous on both sides cuz it is absolutely designed to divide. but why should we be unified in the first place? well one of americas founding fathers actually says why we should be unified in his famous quote "a house divided against itself cannot stand". basically we are stronger together we can build a nation better than any other by working together not against each other. i've said this before but i believe the left and right need each other. "an eagle with 1 wing cannot fly." the marketplace of ideas is barren when half the ideas arent there. you want universal healthcare? how do you think you can get your ideas to the right by excommunicating them? at best they'll hear your idea and see it as an issue because you're an issue. want more secure voting? how are you going to communicate that idea to the left if you excommunicate them? again at best they'll hear your idea and see it as an issue cuz to them you're an issue. i often refer to this as "'us' vs 'them'" thinking and it's built on a concept from tribalism known as "othering"(i told you keep that word in mind) where a group or tribe others another group or tribe as not being their equals. some of you already understand this but theres people who don't and this is how we got where we are today. if we thought individualistically again we might be able to hold our culture together and iron out the issues in a progressive fashion. tribalistic thinking is something that needs to be done away with if we are to progress otherwise we regress back to living off of animalistic instinct. i guess to end this off if you're still a tribalist after reading this i'll leave you with a question. what do you think separates man from animal?
the animalistic mind vs the analytical mind

Laws and self-restraint. Unfortunately if it weren't for laws most people would behave like animals. We can clearly see this demonstrated where recently democrat run cities defunded the police. The end result was more violent crime.
Intelligent and wise people tend to exercise more self-restraint, whereas ignorant people tend to be more animalistic unfortunately.
while i apricate your comment i believe you got some things wrong which i've already addressed in this blog entree https://blog.spacehey.com/entry?id=26067
