non pro controllers on the swtch

this was mostly inspired by a similar blog i did for the xbox360 which itself was inspired by a similar blog i did for the ps3 the difference with this one is it's not out of necessity but out of curiosity

i started with the PSclassic controller this one did not work i went to edit controller buttons however i had to select a recognized controller this controller did not appear on that list not even as a classic so theres a possibly of a trend of controllers not working here due to this small detail

i would do the wii u pro controller however i have no wii u pro controller that is wired the closest i have is my emuli (i may have the companies name wrong) controller which has a port to charge and thats all it does trust me i tried to use this thing wired on the wii u and it didn't work then either (it's battery doesn't hold a charge)

the microsoft sidewinder gamepad did not work in this either if you're not aware this controller is basically a 6 button genesis controller with a usb end it's light did come on but still nothing i went into the controller menu to maybe remap the switch did not recognize it so i couldn't map buttons the game i was going to play was a fighting game and 6 button controllers like this are really useful in those types of games so i would be damned if i was going to stop there i botted up blazblue cross tag battle and went to the in game button settings menu and the biggest issue i came across was that i need to push the +/start button to even start now this in terms of button assignment as anyone whos spent a lot of time with emulators will tell you could be any button i don't recall the exact coding the + button on a pro controller is but the check is the same usually for a certain number so i pushed every button on this controller hoping to find it and start setting non of the face buttons worked the L and R buttons didn't work button 1 and 2 (start and select on most controllers) didn't work i was so desperate for this to work i even tried the control pad the 1 button type that every controller has the same check on and only variation is typically if it reads as a control pad or a control stick that obviously didn't work either so despite how far i went to get this one to work nothing i'm guessing fight sticks for the switch cost alot in fact i'm going to check that real quick the listing i found that was the cheapest of the immediate listings that google gave me that i can confirm work with the switch it costs about the price of a new game on a non switch console (gotta love that switch tax right :b ) hopefully we don't have a similar situation like we had with the xbox360 cuz theres actually less reason for the switch to have this issue with it's emulation like control mapping feature if the ps3 shows this system up in control flexibility which by this point it already has that's going to be disappointing

the logitech f310 does not work the mode light does come on however i tried this in all modes and it would not work i did try going in game with it to no avail i'm honestly hoping this is something nintendo works on to make usable cuz at this point it's becoming apparent to me these controller are being read but blocked and again the switch has way less good reason for this than the xbox360 did given the emulation like control mapping that's possible on this system

i should preface this one by noting that my wired xbox360 controller has been on the fritz for a while now it works but it disconnects when moved too uncarefully and takes effort to reconnect that being said when i tried it out on my switch when i finally got it to stably read that it was connected the lights where blinking all 4 simultamously like it does when it's first plugged in however instead of instead of solid with only the p1 light on like what happens when plugging it into a computer or 360 it continued to blink like that this could be an indicator as to why it didn't work at all on the switch as the xbox360 both on the controller and the system itself used the lights to show when there is an issue of course i'm no expert on reading these errors so i cannot tell you what exzactly was wrong or what the controller was trying to tell me

the mini plus is a $1 bluetooth controller built for someone with the same sized hands the joycon was built for if not smaller i charged it up and tried connecting it to the switch knowing that the switch does use bluetooth (speaking of if you own a switch and you need a bluetooth controller for a different system the joycon will work for that to put them into pair mode push zl and zr at the same time) unfortunately the switch refused to connect to the controller (or maybe fortunately? i'm not sure how i feel about playing switch games on that controller it does feel clunky maybe i'll do a review of it one of these days) so no it does not work with the switch well not by normal means which can be said of every controller i've mentioned so far

(this blog will be edited as i tryout different controllers)
