Blog 5 - My Code Lyoko Obsession

Hello, internet!

So, I've been rewatching my one of my favourite shows, called Code Lyoko. I know most of you probably don't know what CL is, or what it is about, so, here it goes!

Code Lyoko is a French animated show about 4 students - Jeremie, Odd, Ulrich, and Yumi. Jeremie's the brains, Odd is the clown, Ulrich is a little crass (mostly due to his horrible relationship with his parents), and Yumi's goth but super mild.

They all fight against XANA to protect a virtual world called Lyoko, which is hosted by a Supercomputer. XANA is an evil AI, who can activate (take control of) so called "Towers" on Lyoko, and use them to attack Earth in various ways. They also fight to protect a pink haired girl named Aelita, who helps them on Lyoko.

How can you tell the difference between Earth and Lyoko? Well, Earth is 2D, Lyoko is CGI.

When XANA attacks, they have to generally sneak out of their classes and go to a nearby beat up factory, where the Supercomputer resides. Jeremie stays on the computer to help them, and the other 3 go to Lyoko through big cabins called Scanners, which.. well, scan them and then virtualize them into Lyoko.

And before you ask: Wouldn't that make Jeremie an easy target? YES IT DOES.

Inside Lyoko, XANA summons various types of monsters: Gigantic metal crabs, big wasps, basically a giant bowling ball, God Damn Blocks, and they all use lasers to attack the Lyoko Warriors.
But no one is as targeted as ol' Yumi.
Really.

XANA loves to strike her down so much that fans even made a joke about a so called "Pick on Yumi" week.

Anywho.

Aelita's the only person who can deactivate towers, so she has to be protected at all costs.

What happens when you lose all your life points? It depends.
If you're a regular warrior, you just go back to the scanner, completely exhausted. But.. if you're Aelita, though.. You're done for good. Aelita will die if she's de-virtualized, hence why she has to be protected at all costs.

When the tower is finally deactivated, XANA's attack stops, and Jeremie performs a Return To The Past, or RTTP, where they go back in time to fix any issues and damage XANA's attack might've caused on Earth, or simply to wipe someone's memory in case they find out about the Supercomputer.

I was raised on this show, and still love it to this very same day. You could even say I'm a CL fanatic, maybe!

My favourite characters? Well, LW-wise, Jeremie. Non LW-wise, Jim Moralés, the PE teacher. But he'd rather not talk about it.
