What year did you stop using Myspace and why?

Probably 2008 or so because the site had changed a lot and the ppl I liked weren’t on it anymore and I stopped playing video games which was where I got all my friends 

What year did you join?

I think 2006 or so. It was the year my house caught on fire 

Were all your friends on it?

I didn’t have friends becuz I switched schools and my house caught on fire so we had to move. The only friends I had was gamer friends and yeah, some of them had Myspace 

How old were you when you joined/used it?

Around 12 years old 

If you were below 18 did your parents know about your myspace account? 

Yes, I’ve had social media since I was 8 years old. My first ever page was Black Planet which was a black version of Myspace and was used for dating but I only had it for designing and adding doll babies to my page

Did they allow it? 

Yeah, I was smart and convinced my mom that technology was the future and coding was important to learn lmaooo

Did they ever check it or have you added as a friend?

Nope. I wouldn’t allow that, my mom was more like a sister to me than an actual mother and so I had a lot of freedom 

Any Myspace drama like feuds over top 8 or any other interesting Myspace stories?

Yesssss! The guy who was my pretend boyfriend on the game I was playing was a total catfish. His Myspace photos were stolen from someone else's page and he was actually really ugly. I cringe lmaooo. Luckily my friends had my back and told me about it!! 

What was the thing you liked most about Myspace and the thing you hated the most?

I loved all my friends and all the page designing, it was so much fun. I hated it changing and destroying itself and leaving us with ugly facebook 

When Facebook became popular what did you think of it? Did you immediately abandon Myspace and joined FB or joined FB when Myspace was past the point of no return?

I hated it and didn’t join for years. The only reason I got on it was to play games like Farmville and Yoville. I loved the games but once the games became boring I had no reason for the page. I honestly don’t know why I kept it so long but I’m glad I deleted it now.

Favourite myspace memory?

The photos of the girls who took jacuzzi pics. It’s sound inappropriate but it’s not. It was this really funny jacuzzi photo that I loved and want to recreate one day with my group of friends. I also had two friends who always blogged about Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie in The Simple Life. I loved reading their blogs and talking to them on Aim. That one girl who had Dance Dance as her playlist song and it became my favorite song that year. 

How often did you use Myspace?

Every single day several times a day LOL

The same as the ones that’s on my profile now

Did you have an interesting layout or a plain profile?

Interesting layout with lots of dolls everywhere and I was really mean and had such a conceited about me section lmao 

Were you emo? Lol

Emo is not my culture, so I wasn’t physically but mentally I really was lmao. I had an obsession with Sasuke from Naruto and so when I saw guys who look like him in rl I fell in love with the theme lmao 

Why did you think Myspace failed?

It changed for some reason and that made a lot of ppl leave. Also now that I’ve been on Spacehey I realized idk if I would of liked it as an adult, it was only fun when I was a Kid. So it may not appeal to an older crowd outside of nostalgia

Nope, I only did surveys like I do now lmao. I did one chain letter but I thought it was stupid, so I hated them

Probably my online best friend Emily or my fake catfish boyfriend. But I’d never put a guy over my bestie 

If Myspace had never changed it’s og style but most of your friends/people you knew still abandoned it in favour of Facebook would you have stayed on MySpace or joined Facebook or possibly have both sites? 

Facebook wasn’t around when I left Myspace. I never cared for fb. If I didn’t stop playing Runescape then I would of never started playing Farmville. So I would of never had a fb. 

What do you think Myspace had that is lacking in todays social media platforms?

Mutual Friends and not followers. I’m not your fan and I hate how you think someone following you but they unfollowed and you don’t know now you’re still following them. I would unfollow too if I knew. 

What are some things better about social media today than in the Myspace days?

Nothing really. I miss the old days when it was only geeks online, now all these dumbasses are here and it’s a different vibe 

Were there any toxic aspects of Myspace that you remember? (besides top 8 drama) if you compare social media now vs then which did you find more toxic?

It really wasn’t any IMO. I didn’t even have top 8 drama. I use to be really mean and bully ppl though since I was a gamer, unlike now where I would never troll someone 

Do you remember your old MySpace account information? Were you able to log in? 

I did but I deleted it and had them delete my second account

Do you have any embarrassing pictures on there still lingering around?

Nope, I never did. Honestly I wish I still had an account with all my photos up because I would of loved to have them. I miss those photos. When I last seen my account back in 2013, all the info on it was removed becuz of the updates they did, so nothing was even on it. I was so sad 

If MySpace was still around in it’s original form do you think teens/young adults today would like it?

Teens and college students for sure, idk about the older crowd but gen z is more politics so they would do better on sites like tiktok where they can talk about world views and stuff. I think emo theme really made Myspace more appealing but now it’s an old trend, so it’s not really anything special about this site anymore other than designing your page.
