The Nickelodeon Graveyard

Notice: This blog was updated in order to be formatted properly.

Most millennials in this current day have heard or seen Nickelodeon before.
The children's network, at its peak, was a cable powerhouse, and at one
point, was the number one channel in America. However, the channel is
no longer at its peak, and has had to make many "cutbacks" in order to appease
the audience it has. This has created a graveyard for many of its shows, especially in animation. I will go over the causes of the graveyard and its unfortunate victims.

DEATH BY MOVEMENT

This one, by far, is the most common. There are cases of this like
since the Nicktoons channel was a thing, which was As Told By Ginger, whose final season was aired in Nicktoons, to never see the light of day until Nickelodeon recognized it 10 years later when Nicksplat was a thing, then was forgotten until Paramount+ was a thing 5 years later.

The most infamous example was Harvey Beaks, where the creator had expressed his distaste in to what Nick had done to his show. He was then shortly forced to apologize. There are many more examples of this, as even cult classics such as Invader Zim and My Life As a Teenage Robot were thrown onto Nicktoons on their final, or even second season. There was also The Legend Of Kora, where its last 2 seasons were put exclusively on Nick.com.

The death is easily recognized with a sign of low ratings, which is almost an instant killer for these cartoons.

DEATH BY REJECTION

Being forgotten is a fate many cancelled peices of animated media face. And Nick
was no different. The X's is a great example of this. It ran for 1 season, to almost never airing again until ten years later, and has never had any digital
releases. El Tigre is also a great example. Despite being well received, it
only received one season, and didn't make any noticeable returns until years after it aired. The most infamous example belongs to Glitch Techs, with little marketing, it was thrown onto Netflix for only 2 seasons,
and was effectively cancelled.

This is kind of explainable by the title, as rejection is easy to recognize in most cases. But can usually be seen with little to no advertisements or recognition by Nick.

DEATH BY BURNOUT

Every modern Butch Hartman cartoon. Almost every single on of them declined this way. This would then be followed by movement, and eventually death. Why has this happened to only Butch cartoons I do not have the answer to, but it may have to do with most of the people who liked him ended up being replaced. Also, some say the Loud House is heading the same direction, but time may only tell that story.

This is signified in a lack of quality in the cartoon, which is usually caused by weird and strange writing decisions and animation.

And that concludes the graveyard tour. Hopefully you know more about why some of these cartoons seem to get cancelled. What was the worst cancellation that Nick ever did? Tell me in the comments below.

I totally forgot about As Told By Ginger until you mentioned it here, went and looked it up and all the memories came flooding back in. Idk why they ignored their IPs like that, very sad seeing as they had some real good animation work back in the day.
