Anthropic is DESTROYING BOOKS.

I rarely post here, but I'm coming back to tell you guys this since this is bugging me so much. Before continuing, I should disclose to you guys that I'm a firm AI hater.

Alright so here's the news:

In some recent unsealed court documents, it was revealed that Anthropic bought MILLIONS of books as soon as early 2024 and chopped off their spines, scanned the pages, and recycled or threw away the remains to train its Claude AI models.

They said that their objective was, and I quote, to "destructively scan all the books in the world" to build a massive internal digital library.

To do this project, they hired Tom Turvey, a former executive that ran the Google Books scanning project.

This goes without saying but this is HORRIBLE. This means that some rare books may become COMPLETELY unavailable, and if Anthropic wants, they could simply pretend the text in these books was different than it actually was and also completely censor certain topics, as they've proved to already be doing in their most advanced models, but that was in the name of safety.
