ERRATAS & NOTES:
-I used the term schism. I meant TREMOR. Just so you know when you read.
-There might be a few misspellings and mistakes like the one I just pointed out, so excuse me.
-As i'll say near the end, I decided to post this today because it was too late when I finished, hence why it says "it happened yesterday" for example, which, by now, it happened two days ago.
-Please just paste the urls into the search bar, I'm too lazy to embed and stuff guys...
Hi everyone... this happened yesterday. I made a post about it while still on the deal. But now that everything is more calm, there's more information, I felt like rewriting.
I'll relate the events as much as I know, my experience and simply leave a register for myself. If you're interested, well, keep reading if you want.
So, as I said, it happened yesterday: June 24th of 2026 around 6:00 PM, afternoon.
I was on my bedroom with my mom, and I felt a voltage drop before the earthquake. At first, just by a second, I thought it was a mere schism, you know, there you usually just feel a vibration...
But the very moment the walls began to shake and everything with it, I immediately got up along my mom and stayed below the door frame.
In my case, I didn't even feel a foreshock, which is the schism before the quake. To me it was immediate.
However, now when we saw it wasn't stopping, we both ran to the back door that heads to the garden and stayed on that frame. AND IT JUST KEPT SHAKING FOR A LONG WHILE.
Besides my mother, we were with some of the people that live there as well (rent), a family with two children and a couple. So, yeah we just stood there looking around and praying for the quake to stop.
The internet of course fell and for a moment there was no signal whatsoever.
When it finally stopped, we stayed there for a moment. My mom was thanking my grandfather for protecting us, because he was an engineer, the type to build things so they can withstand an earthquake. May he rest in peace.
The house didn't suffer any damage, thankfully, there were no cracks or anything. The only damage was a broken glass bottle on a bathroom. The rest was that the cabinets opened, the lamps were swinging side to side, little things fell and there was a lot of dust in certain areas, but nothing severe happened.
Going back to our group, after the quake, we all stayed outside, talking and trying to communicate with others and search for any news and information...
At the moment I think Google did show that a quake happened, saying it was 7.0M or 6.8M apparently... report that would change a lot during the course of day...
The grandmother of the family told us that going downstairs, as you'd think, was hell because everything kept moving. Thankfully she didn't fell and lives to say that lol. But just imagine how terrible the quake was...
Another thing she told us is that she heard a wall falling apart, and indeed a wall fell, but it was the house behind ours, as I understood at least.
We all headed to the porch and stayed there. My aunt arrived, since she was on the street, and she tells that she actually felt a foreshock (maybe I didn't feel the schism because I was on a bed lol). She was waiting to cross the street I think, and then she felt the schism and that damn ominous sound that quakes produce.
She tells that a guy next to her, well, tells her it's a schism duhh. But when she saw people running outside the buildings desperately, that's when she understood it was just a little schism. Heading back home, she saw a big cloud of dust somewhere, and she said it was the one house whose wall fell, apparently, idk.
Idk because I was too concerned with looking for info and trying to contact my friends.
Something I didn't mention, the only thing my mom and I grabbed before going out was our phones, since we were using them hahaha.
Now, from the very moment it stopped, before we even headed to the porch, we all felt a few aftershocks, which, as I look up, are quakes themselves, but mostly a tremor and not a freaking house-shaking quake.
The earthquake lasted two whole ass minutes, and I know it sounds little but it ISN'T, ok?
The following and occasionally aftershocks lasted long seconds and were intense, but as time went by, they became shorter and more subtle.
At some point I managed to contact a few friends in our group and see the first reports of the quake, but signal was very weak and slow so yeah... In Google the report got updated to 7.0M and so.
It was actually during that time that I began to write the post I made yesterday lol.
In this precise moment as i'm writing this, June 25th of 2026, 1:40 PM afternoon, another tremor just happened... Hopefully it's just that. I moved to another room just to be close to the exists lol.
Going back to my telling...
When we were all on the porch, I could see the neighbors coming outside and all. Meanwhile, a girl that lived in the second floor of our home came down. She stayed there during the earthquake and she says she was keep the water tank from falling lmao, like, she just stayed there hugging during the whole earthquake somehow. It wasn't until it calmed down she came down and we meet her in the porch.
After that, it was mostly just aftershock after aftershock and stuff... All the neighbors were around, coming to salute and offer help and food. Since I didn't have my glasses I couldn't tell much so yeah I just stayed there xd. Some said they didn't have power at their houses.
At the moment I managed to contact two friends of mine on the groupchat despite the weak signal.
One said the earthquake took her off guard, when she was almost going to bath XD, we'll call her Carmine
The other friend said her building actually cracked and even an elevator fell down, we'll call her Pink.
It was around those moments that there were more news and reports of fallen buildings and, well, overall damages around my state and other ones, but not so much. Apparently, checking the groupchat again, it was barely 6:25 PM dawg, my memory and perception of time is fried, I thought it was later at the moment...
But anyways... summarizing further more...
All my friends eventually replied and we kept talking in the groupchat. Here's one of the few screenshots I made while I was constantly checking Google lol.

What's was funny to me is that even after the earthquake, in popular searches there was nothing about it, just the thing about Scotland vs Brazil. At the time I think I might have published my first post about the quake, if you want to see it you can click here
I promise it's shorter than this lol. I didn't update it much because I was feeling too overwhelmed and tired...
So... what else...? I'm literally trying to remember as I'm writing this.
I think my friends and I began to contact our teacher? No wait I just checked and that was at FREAKING 2 AM.
Well were trying to contact other people... known ones and such... At my porch more relatives of the families living at my home were arriving. I tried to return to my bedroom because I can't afford sitting on a stiff wood chair for more then 3 hours lol. But since the DAMN aftershocks were STILL HAPPENING AND STILL HAPPENED, you could see me scrambling to put on my flip flops and run from the very back of my house to the porch once again.
It wasn't until 10 PM that the state of emergency was declared... which I think was too late, like, bruh. But anyways.

At that moment, the thing about the twin earthquake was being talked about, and of course reports of people trapped under debris, damaged infrastructure, injured people, people who lost their homes and missing people...
And regarding the last three, it's not that I simply saw it on the news, I saw it on the very states of my own friends, and, recently today, a guy from MY OWN SCHOOL is MISSING, of 1-3 year of highschool, so he's between being 11-14 years old.
My friend Pink had to leave her apartment because the building had very dangerous cracks, and, well, the very elevator literally fell. She's safe now with her family on another state. Here are some photos she shared of the damages in the building. Poor of her seriously, she has like fours younger sisters now that I think about it :(

Here's a little info I got on which cracks are dangerous, idk the explanation but I think it's obvious lol. As you can see, some of the cracks shown below are similar to the ones in the building. I'm glad Pink managed to leave.

At this point idk if I'm even telling everything in order lol. But whatever.
Around 1 AM, a guy from my prom's groupchat started asking for help and numbers to call, because one of our classmates was injured, (We'll call them Bob) and they were, like, near the shore. Not literally of course I mean like, in a state near it where the impact was even more terrible.
Actually, I think around 9-12 AM there were even, like, supposed rumors and actual warnings of a potential TSUNAMI, because, you know... the tectonic plates and all... yeah? yeah. I blame Poseidon for this tragedy.
Returning to the injured guy, their friends was asking for help and such because he didn't have any helpline numbers and such from said state. So nobody was receiving his calls, and, I mean, I already said it, there were a lot of buildings that got destroyed and people trapped under debris, so I imagine the rescuers were definitely collapsed, even more during NIGHT.
Another relative of the families living here arrived and she told us she was driving on her car during the earthquake and, when it happened, she felt as if the engine fell or something. I really don't know what she did or where she was at the moment honestly, but she says she saw people running around in the street. She also heard about the Tsunami alert, from her phone apparently, who was telling her to look for the nearest exits... and like... what are the nearest exits during a TSUNAMI XD!?!?!? She joked. But her and her dog thankfully arrived with the car intact.

I suppose these were the rumors back then, but, as you can see it's directed mostly for those countries, but even so, who knows.
Ok... moving on... at this point there were like 20 people on my house, and also 5 dogs and 2 cats I think XD. As I keep mentioning, relatives of the people that live on my house came because they were really scared.
Around that moment, which was 1 AM as I checked some messages, three relatives of my family arrived from the very same state Bob was injured.
Their home, or the building they were at the moment, got destroyed. They're a couple along a severely senile woman, who's the mother of one of them. Emphasis on severely because I tried to talk to her and she could only mumble a bunch of sounds, plus she's on a wheelchair... Just imagine having to care of an elderly woman on such state during a freaking earthquake, in the most AFFECTED STATE.
Literally, checking now, almost every building there got destroyed. Look at this comparison I found...

The couple managed to come here around 1 AM because they got a ride somehow, idk but they miraculously made it to my home. And they're staying here for a while. They're all fine.
Another thing that happened around 1 AM is that, yes, there were still aftershocks going on. You don't know how many times I tried to sleep and having to wake up and run to the living room because of a tremor. It wasn't until 4 AM I suppose... since I remember I got a notif of my alarm clock saying it will sound in a few hours... when a few birds were already signing even??? But whatever. Last night I had to sleep with my shoes on. I think I was one of the little people that did sleep in my house.
Anyways retuning to 1 AM, at that hour my military teacher replied... because, idk if I mentioned we were trying to contact people along my friends? Well, we even contacted the teachers, specially her because she lived in the most affected state.
She testifies that, when the earthquake happened at 6 PM, it caught her alone and she didn't manage to leave the building. She had to wait, and after the whole thing, she was too scared and the only things she managed to pick up were a sweater and a blue jean. She didn't even pick up her phone or her wallet, she just ran outside the building and felt the relief. It was later on, around 11 and 12 AM that she wanted to communicate with her family, but they weren't letting people in because some cornices fell down... but she eventually managed to go upstairs again and get the stuff she needed. It was horrible, she concludes.
Checking again, she replied around 2 AM, not 1 AM, got confused, my bad.
Let's see... what else... I think nothing else interesting happened. At some moment another intense aftershock happened around those hours and everyone had to come out, including me, who was on bed haha.
It was incredibly cold outside, I forgot to mention, like, the wind was blowing so ominously... Thankfully there was a lot light, from the building besides my house, and, well, we were all there once again in the porch and garden... I was so tired and bored... I was on Spacehey and talking to my friends... They were all tired too, my family was tired... Everyone was so tired...
And well, right now I can't recall of something else happened besides the aftershocks that thankfully already became more subtle, but still hearing them was terrifying.
Eventually I went to sleep, as I said, with shoes on... and woke up, and I'm here... well, writing all this took me all day to be honest. It's 5:45 PM as I'm writing this sentence.
I don't know at what time I woke up, might've been 10 AM and kept sleeping till 12 PM...
But, good news, my classmate Bob is ok. He had a injury on a leg, but he's with his mother now and they seem to be safe as far as I know... A few hours ago, the missing kid from 1-3 year of highschool was found alive too... And that's all...
I'm sooo tired still that I had, just now, I'm lying on my bed, and I saved some sweet bread for both of us on a tupperware besides me on my camp of vision... I'm either so tired or so focused on writing this, or both, that I didn't notice my mom ate both. And my mom didn't even notice that either. Just imagine. And my mother must be even more tired than me. Me because, hehe, guess what, it's that monthly moment in the day of a woman, yayyy...
Anyways...
Ok now that I finally said all of that... I remember that around 10 or 11 AM, when or after the whole state of emergency got declared, my mom was saying it wasn't a single earthquake, they were TWO.
I was confused at moment, besides FREAKINGGG TIREEEEED, because, like, I just felt one, I thought, and the aftershocks. So I stayed with that doubt until this moment. Here's the little I've found on Internet because I don't want to waste so much data.
Quoting from BBC...
«According to physicists, geologists and seismology experts, the two consecutive earthquakes that affected the northern part of the Caribbean country, and which were separated by only 39 seconds, would constitute what is known as a "seismic doublet"».
«...It occurs when two main earthquakes strike, but the second cannot be considered a mere aftershock of the first, either because both tremors have a similar intensity or because their epicenters are close to each other. And this is precisely what happened in Venezuela».

«The first earthquake, which struck the central coast at 6:04 PM, had a magnitude of 7.2 and its epicenter was near the city of San Felipe, in the state of Yaracuy, about 280 km west of Caracas. The second earthquake occurred 39 seconds later, just 45 kilometers away, with its epicenter near the municipality of Yumare. This earthquake was even more powerful than the first, reaching a magnitude of 7.5».
So both happened almost at the very same time, which explains why it could have been so long and, well, so intense and catastrophic... However, why was it said that there could be a tsunami?
According to the Pacific Tsunami Museum...
«Tsunamis are caused by violent seafloor movement associated with earthquakes, landslides, lava entering the sea, seamount collapse, or meteorite impact. The most common cause is earthquakes [...]».
«Earthquakes that generate tsunamis most often happen where Earth’s tectonic plates converge, and the heavier plate dips beneath the lighter one. Part of the seafloor snaps upward as the tension is released».
Knowing this, the earthquakes that happened here on Venezuela occurred exactly where the Caribbean and the South American plates converge, which makes this area seismically active (BBC, from the same shared article).
On the other hand, the USGS says that earthquakes between 6.5 and 7.5 magnitudes «do not usually produce destructive tsunamis. However, small sea level changes might be observed in the vicinity of the epicenter. Tsunamis capable of producing damage or casualties are rare in this magnitude range but have occurred due to secondary effects such as landslides or submarine slumps».
Both earthquakes are inside this range, hence why they probably warned about a tsunami... The scary think is that the gap between this type and an actual destructive tsunami it's just one. Like, from 7.6 to 7.8 magnitude earthquakes COULD certainly produce destructive tsunamis, and from 7.8 to beyond they can be lethal, with possible aftershocks of 7.5M, like another earthquake itself...
Right now as I write, it is 8:50 PM... My mom just explained that, idk if you remember that I said that thankfully there was light yesterday's night? Well, apparently it's not because of the building besides us, but because some stadium lights shifted their direction with the quake. I mean, better for the neighborhood and to make robbers visible, which have been around...
So... yeah... I honestly can't believe, like, this year 2026 we got BOMBED around 2 AM on January 3rd, and then six months later we get TWO EARTHQUAKES. What we need now is to receive a tsunami, a tornado, a hurricane, the 7 plagues of Egypt, Evangelion's Third Impact, the Ragnarok... idk!!! A freaking meteorite!! The sun exploding!!!
I think the universe doesn't want me to go to college or sum... but I won't stop them from me doing so...
Seriously guys, y'all don't know how exhausting this year has been already. Reason why I vanished for so long after the bombings, well, not exactly but yeah kinda, actually yeah. Anyways... Today we were supposed to go to school to present a short film our prom did. Of course classes got suspended duhhh, but yeah... I actually thought about it at 10 PM yesterday lmao. I could be on the apocalypse, but I still worry about school XD.
The hours before the tragedy, I woke up after a very silly dream and head onto planning my career path for when I'll apply to college and such you know? At 5 PM I was already going to head to Spacehey or play Minecraft... and then the earthquake arrived...
...And just like that, we return to the beginning of this post. Might post this whole thing tomorrow June 26th. This is probably the longest post I've written so far...
I just took a little dinner as for 9:32 PM... I fighted for my life opening a juice bottle fr and I'm eating some mints now... I don't know what else to tell you guys. If anyone still wonders, my house, my family and friends are fine still, nothing has happened here where I'm at. But outside, the reports of injured... missing... and dead people just keep coming and growing bigger... My deepest condolences to their families and friends...
I will be eternally grateful for my luck, in all my lifetime, not even just because of the bombings of January 3rd and the twin earthquakes of June 24th, I'm grateful for my mother and I'm grateful for my grandfather... because... Oh my god another aftershock just happened right now at 9:47 PM, Poseidon chill.
Ehem...
Because I know, of course, without none of that I wouldn't even be here, and I don't know if me and my family will be lucky the next time a tragedy happens. Hopefully our luck never runs out, and above all, no more tragedies happen here. But, one never knows... so, my message to everyone, as I said, maybe, on my post when the bombings occurred... be grateful for what you have, even the littlest, mundane things and moments.
You never know when you may lose it all, and these people did so under 39 seconds.
