Why I Support 'North' Korea

Before I begin, let me say that this does not mean I agree with everything the current government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea stands for or does. It simply means I would prefer Korean unification under Pyongyang than I would under Seoul. I will also refer to 'North Korea' as the DPRK or just Korea as I see them as the sole legitimate government of the Korean peninsula, and I will refer to 'South Korea' as just 'Southern Korea' or the occupied south.

Lets start with a little history. Korea was occupied and eventually annexed by Japan's fascist empire from 1910-1945, leaving once the USSR liberated both Europe and Korea from fascism. However, the US also reached Japanese occupied Korea, and instead of agreeing to let Pyongyang unify the peninsula (which most of the Korean population south and north actually prefered as proven with polling and the presence of a leftist paramilitary known as the People's Guerilla Army making advances across the south), the US divided the peninsula, installing a hard-right authoritarian fascist government in the occupied south. The people in the north, on the other hand, elected a war hero - Kim Il Sung. Kim Il Sung led an incredible guerilla campaign against the Japanese occupation and contributed significantly to the liberation of Korea. He was popular across the entire peninsula, including the occupied south. Kim Il Sung also founded the ideology admired by anti imperialists called Juche.

The occupied southern government, in response to the strong leftist sentiment across the territory, commits a disgusting campaign against them, including a genocide on Jeju Island which the US openly backed and supported. They committed this genocide which killed tens of thousands of innocent people simply because there was some minor PGA activity and a leftist population. (sound familiar....?🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸) This is an atrocious event in Korean history that is often overlooked or ignored in history. There is a reason as to why the Korean War has been nicknamed the "Forgotten War". Anyway, once Pyongyang launched the military operation to unify the peninsula, not only did Koreans in the occupied south celebrate particularly those in PGA areas, but they saw initial incredible success, reaching all the way down to Busan until the entire western imperialist world launched their own invasion against Korea, but even then China generously came in to support Korea despite them still fighting off the Nationalists in western China and Taiwan. Pyongyang did all this with the support of just two countries and the occupied south failed to make any meaningful progress despite having practically the entirety of the United Nations on their side. However, when the UN and the US/occupied south invaded Korea, they killed off around a quarter of the population and 80% of the DPRK was turned into rubble. If this wasn't a genocidal campaign, I don't know what is.

So, the Korean war was paused around the location of where it started - the 38th parallel. Life in the north exceeded the South sensationally, in fact, the DPRK even succeeded China in terms of wealth, mostly thanks to the Juche and Marxist-Leninist ideology of Kim Il Sung, and most people in the DPRK were more than satisfied with the status quo, besides the fact American soldiers kept on observing anything the DPRK was doing. It is also important to note the Korean war never truly ended, despite talks of peace in 2018, the war continues, sometimes hot, sometimes cold. Korea gets a bad reputation by the media and most recently the nonsensical hypothetical story of the newest Call of Duty game which is clearly just CIA propaganda. Various 'defectors' have made slanderous claims against the DPRK, claiming it's just like 1984 or Nazi Germany... which couldn't be further from the truth. Many of these 'defectors' are genuinely paid by the US government and is clearly just making these stories up for money. Take probably the most well known example - Yeomni Park. Not only did she tweet "White Lives Matter" in 2022 which is openly racist even against her own people, there is genuine evidence she has been paid by the occupied south's government as well as the USA to make these claims. She also makes nonsensical claims such as "(DPR) Koreans do not know about Africa", despite being fact checked by reliable sources giving evidence that Koreans do in fact know the history, location and cultures of Africa, and that students from from multiple African countries such as but not limited to Uganda, Zimbabwe, Senegal, Nigeria etc. have all put on shows in Pyongyang and elsewhere. Furthermore, despite Park's claims of forced conscription for Koreans over 4"10, A.B. Abrams, a reputable writer, met hundreds of Koreans well over 5 ft and none claimed they were conscripted. Meanwhile, in the occupied south, every single male is in fact conscripted and therefore serves the American occupied southern government's military. 

Furthermore, Korea has been firm standing in support for decolonization and anti-fascism/anti-racism. Despite claims of Korea being ethnonationalist, the government has never recognised Israel as a legitimate country, instead recognising the land as Palestinian (minus the Golan Heights which is recognised, rightfully so, as Syrian). They have also backed the freedom of Zimbabwe from the white supremacist ethnostate of Rhodesia and the freedom of Scotland in 2014. In fact, DPR Korea has gone as far as to fund and support resistance groups in Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, Zimbabwe, Scotland, Ireland, and other countries such as Libya under Gaddafi which was well known to fund Palestinian, Irish, Scottish and other resistance groups fighting against colonialism.

Furthermore, any claim that the DPR Korea is restrictive against positive comments of the South is hypocritical and even baseless. The occupied south will arrest you if you say anything remotely positive about the DPRK, which there is a lot to support such as the higher birth rate, lower suicide rates, free healthcare, housing, education etc. so it is very silly to cry "dictatorship" as if the occupied south isn't worse. Speaking of dictatorships, any claims that the DPRK is authoritarian needs corrections. The DPRK has elections rather commonly, sometimes more than many western nations, and there is plenty of political parties to choose from such as the Social Democratic Party of Korea, independent candidates, and more. Furthermore, it is an outright lie that Koreans cannot leave the country. For example, 200,000 Koreans every year leave the nation to visit China alone, and plenty visit and sometimes even settle in countries such as Russia or China. The Issue is that most countries don't allow Korean passports, so it is the fault of western governments for not allowing them to enter even to visit as just a tourist. In fact, from personal experience, Koreans even visited Scotland to play in a local sports center, so clearly they do in fact have freedom of movements, and I can say with confidence they did not look malnourished. Speaking of which, it is true there was a devastating famine the the 1990s, mostly as a consequence of the illegal dissolution of the USSR and Eastern Bloc (which most people support socialism even 30 years later and say life was better under socialism, e.g. Ukraine alone has a 75% support for the return of the USSR), food insecurity has largely eroded thanks to the work of Kim Jong Il and Kim Jong Un, however any form of food insecurity now is a consequence of US-led UN sanctions against the DPRK, however, the DPRK economy has been booming lately! Kim Jong Un, for one of many examples, has built 50,000 free homes that are in fact good quality despite claims of most homes being built out of straw and metal.
