Hi everyone, today I wanted to talk about something that I think is important, You read the title... It's been a moment actually that I thought about that. I remembered talking movies with my brothers one time, and remaked that in all american movies, any time a black woman would appear, they would never cast a thin, conventionaly attractive black woman, when for white women or really any other ethnicity there was zero tolerance for mid women.
Actually, unironically when media was less woke, black women were better represented, from the 70s and the 90s, especially since many of these women were actually black. When you look todays representation, there is almost only biracial people like Zendaye, Amandla Stenberg, etc... I don't think the past was perfect either (like old movies could have colorism problem), but it was much better for black women's image, especially in the US I image (I'm not american lol). I remember one time on tiktok I saw black representation in the 90s, and I was shocked to see how much better it was compared to today. This tiktok for example :

Anyway, what really made me want to make this blog was this article I recently discovered from afrofeline in blogspot, this one ( but in general I really advice you to check out her entire blog, it's really good even if sometimes I don't totally agree with evry thing she says):
Stop Allowing Black Women's Representation to be Destroyed
Now my two grains of salt I want to add on this masterpiece of an article, is that in general it kinda pains me that even today, many black people on social medias seems to love black representation especially from anime. Even if I'm not really against it, I feel like we are still waiting too much from non-black people. Even if anime has some good black repro, ultimately they are still east asian, and we all know how colorist and racist asf they arePlus japanese people almost all live with other japanese plp and create media for them, so why the hell would they even be interesting in positive representation from black people. But what is even more baffling is how they still represente black people better than supposed " woke" western medias; this video is a perfect example:
How Western vs Japanese Games Portray Black Women
To summarize the video, this dude remark that despite Japan being an homogenious and colorist country, when they represent black women, they always do it with effort and love, giving them cool and colorful outfits, hair... When western companies always tries to make them as ugly and unfeminine as possible. This is just in the video game media, but you can see it everywhere honestly.
I think we need to understand that black people will never have good representation in any western media, or really any non-black media; whether we like it or not, each race is narcissistic, and will always represent themselves positively because they love themselves first and foremost. This was perfectly illustrated by the recent boycott of asian people against the Devil wears Prade 2: the only proemenent asian woman is an average, glasses-wearing shy and super nerd girl with no fashion sense, but did anyone seriously thought white executives want to represent asians positively ? They will always prefer a biracial like Hudsey Williams, rather than any handsome asian man, because it creates competition for white people on their own industry, of course they will never allow it. When you see any asian drama, only super attractive people are casted, in hollywood they would have no chance.
Anyway, my point is okay, non-black don't give a damn about black people but like this is nothing new lol, they real problem is that too many black people still wait for good representation from these people. So no, Disney will never give Tiana the spot light she deserves, in her own movie considerable timescreen was given to her white bestie (on the Jim Crow era... my god) and almost all the movie she's as frog. The only good repro we will have is as positive side-characters, so at that point it will be much better if they stop having black characters in mainstream movies, and instead it's black people developing their own industry, wich is already the case, we just have to give them more strengh, or consumme african movies.
We have to stop expecting non-blacks to represent us because the truth is in this world, it's every man for himself. Of course I'm not saying we should accept bad repro from anyone, on contrary every piece of media who represent black people, especially black women in a negative manner should be bullied into oblivion. But we have to be more self relient.

It’s kinda ironic that in a time where everything is about representation and inclusion (or so they say) it’s worse than before
I think another problem with representation now is that they try to hard to ‘represent’ a certain group of people until the point it feels forced like that character ‘had to be there’ rather than just being another character in the show/movie (like in older media)
Yeah it just shows it was a trend rather than a real sincere effort, but this was from big souless corporations so they would probably never been able to do it correctly anyway...
