Been with Android ever since I got my first phone. First a Galaxy J3, then the Samsung s10 and now the Google Pixel 7. Been my favourite phone so far, even if it does lack a headphone jack and SD card slot.
Well, over the past couple years, Google has released a good number of new phones, most of which just boasting new AI features. Having no interest in AI and my 7 being plenty powerful for what I need, I decided to stick with it for as long as I could.
Then the updates started coming.
They started porting everything I disliked about the new Pixels, pushed AI features, more modern icons, less control over the phone, that sorta stuff. At one point, though an update, they replaced my power button with a Bixby button.
Since then I've had my eyes on a Linux phone, Googles latest push to close off installing apps outside of the playstore solidifying that decision.
My eyes are mainly on the Pinephone right now. Sure, it's not super powerful, but it has a number of neat features, mainly the ability to load any OS I want and the possibility to connect it to a dock and use it as a desktop. The idea of something even more portable than a laptop is incredibly appealing to me. The headphone jack and SD card slot are pretty nice as well.
