late capitalism in the united states has reached a stage where it is beginning to consume the very society that created it. for decades, the country built its global dominance through a combination of military power, financial control and cultural influence. but today, the same system that sustained this power is slowly eroding the internal foundations of the country.
hyper-commodification is one of the clearest examples of this. absolutely everything has become a commodity: healthcare, education, housing, culture, social relationships and even peopleβs attention. the logic of profit has invaded every corner of daily life. the result is a society that is increasingly indebted, exhausted and precarious. working no longer guarantees stability, studying no longer guarantees a future, and getting sick can mean financial collapse.
this is not an accident, but a direct consequence of late-stage capitalism. when the system has already exploited new markets and avenues of expansion as much as possible, it begins to intensify exploitation within the imperial core itself. what was once exported to the global periphery now returns to the very people living inside the center of the system.
at the same time, the imperial power of the united states also shows clear signs of strain. maintaining hundreds of military bases around the world, sustaining proxy wars and preserving the dominance of the dollar requires enormous resources. yet while the state spends trillions maintaining this imperial structure, us citizens face a housing crisis, massive student debt and a healthcare system that functions more like a marketplace for survival.
this reveals a central contradiction: the empire needs constant expansion to sustain itself, but its own internal society is increasingly unable to carry that weight. the result is extreme political polarization, growing social radicalization and a gradual loss of legitimacy in public institutions.
what we are witnessing today is not just another economic downturn, but a structural symptom. when everything becomes a commodity, including human life itself, the system begins to destroy its own social base. and an empire that erodes its own society inevitably begins to decline.
for that reason, the current moment in the united states is not merely a difficult phase. it reflects a model approaching its historical limits. late capitalism, in attempting to commodify everything, ultimately reveals the opposite of what it promises: not freedom, not prosperity, but social exhaustion and structural decline.
