#ThePositivePost - issue 2 + personal message

Hello! I'm the2000snerd, and my nickname is Penny. This will be my second post of #ThePositivePost, where I share positive news from all around the world, hoping to give you a smile on your face ;). Here are some amazing updates to start with:

Bye-bye coal, China and India lead a major decline in coal.

Recent news highlights a remarkable decline in coal power generation in China and India since the 1970s. This is a powerful move toward cleaner, greener energy in two of the world’s largest and fastest-growing economies. It’s a hopeful milestone in the global fight against climate change, showing that even the biggest players can lead the way toward a sustainable, thriving future for our planet! (Source)

A cheaper vaccine for malaria is saving millions of children.

Great news from the world of global health: UNICEF and the Vaccine Alliance Gavi have teamed up to lower the price of an important malaria vaccine, making it much more affordable. The cost of the vaccine, the R21/Matrix-M vaccine, will drop to just $2.99/€2,53 per dose within a year. Thanks to this, countries will be able to get over 30 million extra doses in the next five years, potentially protecting nearly seven million more children by 2030.

Why does this matter? Unfortunately, malaria is still one of the deadliest diseases, especially for young children in Africa, where a child dies roughly every minute of the day from the disease. (Read more)

China’s Biggest River Says 'No Fishing Allowed' and fish are coming back!
Imagine if your favorite restaurant suddenly closed for a deep clean and restock — that’s kind of what’s happening in China’s Yangtze River. The government has put a fishing ban in place on this massive river, and the results are great.
After years of overfishing and pollution, the Yangtze was looking pretty stressed out. But now that fishing isn't allowed, fish populations are coming back to the river, and some rare species that were almost disappearing are making a return. This isn't just good news for the fish, it's also great for biodiversity, local communities, and the planet. (Read more)

Personal message

Usually, I would've done this in another blog, but I feel like this has to be said in this issue. Even though I am a supporter of spreading positive news around on platforms like SpaceHey, I don't ignore the complex and often painful realities in the world. Yesterday, Iran was attacked by the United States and Israel, and the Ayatollah was killed in the bombing. In response, Iran has attacked countries that are allies of the US in the Gulf region.

This situation is frightening and uncertain, and I want to acknowledge the pain, fear, and trauma that many of you may be experiencing. Please stay safe.

I appreciate that you're doing this, and still also spread awareness about what's happening in the middle east. Thank you <3
