In today ‘s techno-industrial system, our time and attention is what holds more value to those in the the technocratic elites. To be able to exploit us, they have developed a way to use the deadliest trap: our own human physiology.
If you’ve been online for the past five years or if you’ve paid attention in class you’re probably familiar with the word “dopamine” which is a neurotransmitter largely attributed to be one of the “feel good chemicals” or in more scientific spaces “learning hormone”. Dopamine, (or DA for for short) is one of the chemical signals that work in our reward system, basically telling our body “do this, get reward, reward feel good” which is essential for survival, activating this system every time we eat, drink water, etc. Basically this system conditions our own body into our behaviors and habits.
The production of DA, however, isn’t limited to actions necessary for basic maintenance of the species, most forms of recreation/entertainment have an effect on our reward system, specially since the reward is almost immediate. With all this information we can agree that DA is produced any time we eat, reproduce, socialize, we get entertainment and also in the usage or recreational drugs.
But with the high of the dopamine peak when there’s a reward, comes the low of not having it, and the higher the DA peak, the lower the emotional roller-coaster goes. Causing the repetition of these behaviors, which in our modern life, tend to be self destructive and most importantly addictive.
These repetitive behaviors you and i know well, scrolling for hours on end, video by video, add by add, second by second, the attractive model from time to time, the cooking tutorial, all the people that seem to be there, but at the end of the day, they aren’t. Social media has become a trap for our reward system.
It’s been engineered that way on purpose, as we’ve stated before, for your time, attention, for you to look at products, and give all these companies your information, your likes, your opinions, and your deepest secrets with as much as a double tap on the screen.
Let’s admit it, today’s world is scary for many, all politically, socially, economically, ecologically etc. In a big way caused by the same people that want you to use your phone as escapism. We’ve been forced in an unnatural cycle of exhaustion, overwork, overthink, imprisonment in our own homes, or work/study spaces, with artificial light, artificial relationships, artificial hierarchies, some spaces designed to block windows to makes us lose track of time, getting all the goods and services we need right at our doorstep finally making us lose connection to our own nature and slowly driving us mad.
Our phone is shown to us as somewhat of a solution “we ruin the world, but here’s something that will make you happy” while in truth, it’s all part of the same operation, they indoctrinate our nervous system into depending on technology to the point where we get abstinence symptoms when we don’t interact with it.
But hope is the last thing one loses, the first step in any recovery is identifying the addiction, and then the causes. While pretending that everyone that reads this suddenly could drop their phone and never touch it again is utopic, lowering our screen times and switching to less stimulating platforms is grains of power we take away from the technoelites and we give back to ourselves while slowly their own system starts to collapse at their feet.
