I've seen so much talk about political (Or... scientific turned political) topics on social media. Just to be clear, I'm not talking about here. This is one of the best platforms to discuss complicated scientific and political topics on the internet due to the ability to create long form essay and rant type blogs. I am talking about social media like Facebook, Instagram, Tik tok, and YT shorts. YT long form content is great for topics like politics though.
I really want to focus on short form content, and how it has effected politics around the world. And also how politics in the USA can effect other countries and their prime ministers/people in charge. And just to be clear, I don't hate the idea of posting things about politics/your political stance in a short form video. No! I think it's a great idea! It gets the message out, it gets news out, etc. BUT! It becomes a problem when people take a video they saw on tik tok about Trump/anything in politics and do no research and turns out it was wrong.
Now, let me be clear... I fucking hate Trump. I hate everyone who has associated with him in a good light. BUT. I don't hate Republicans... And I hate people on social media that spread misinfo about ANY political party/leader. You all have to remember... there's a difference. There are lots of different political ideologies out there. So I recommend doing research on different ones, but here is a chart of (a ton) of ideologies:
It's not just as simple as "Liberal" or "left" or "Conservative" or "Right" and "center" like a lot of charts and short form content creators would like to think. Topics in politics and politics in general is a complicated and hard topic to understand. Systems of government, like Socialism can be seen on this chart in many different forms! People like to think that the USSR was Communist, and the only way communism has been executed. Which, you would be so wrong! There are many different types of Capitalism, Communism, Socialism, etc! (Also the USSR wasn't really communist and never counted itself as such...)
But I would also like to blame the education system and other forms of media, like the news for the over simplification of politics. Here in the US, we aren't taught much about politics and political ideology in school. And on the news...? They don't even touch it with a 20 foot pole! Along with this, in my experience, it is hard to find places to learn about it. Even on the internet. I see the news, talk about abortion, but they never seem to mention that it depends on the morals of the woman... or the beliefs... that it should be open for every woman, due to not all of them having the same religious beliefs, medical needs, etc. I only see it boiled down to "Abortion bad God don't like" on the right side (Which... is wrong btw. The Bible says that life starts at first breath... but also religion shouldn't be in politics and should only matter if a woman who believes in a certain religion needs an abortion.) and "Rape bad ten year olds should have no baby" on the left... (Which... no shit Sherlock?)
Abortion is a complicated topic. It can't just be boiled down to "bad" or "good" because... guess what? Most women have a hard time making the choice! Most women need it for medical reasons or financial reasons. Abortion is not bad or good! Abortion should be Available to whoever needs it.

We do tend to oversimplify topics when we shouldn’t. I try to avoid doing that when I make posts online.

This is very true. But unfortunately, nuance doesn't get clicks and views
