The definitive death of international law

On January 3, 2025, Trump launched an attack on several targets in Venezuela and kidnapped Nicolás Maduro and his wife. The operation involved a violation of Venezuelan airspace sovereignty, and such a military action would be inconceivable if it weren't for the size and power of the United States. In any other scenario, it would be the perfect reason to declare war on the mastermind of such a Machiavellian operation.

The attack on Venezuela kills international law once and for all. The United States defended international law and a rules-based world, including the supposed respect for each country's sovereignty, and through this, they supported Ukraine and delegitimized the Russian invasion in 2022. But yesterday, with Trump and his attacks in Caribbean areas, it shows that the United States no longer defends this; instead, it will attack and act using force without authorization, violating international law to guarantee its own interests.

If the United States does not respect international law and acts as the British Empire did in the 19th century, then Russia, China, and the rest of the great powers have no reason to respect international law. The world ceases to be based on a common ideology and unity, thanks to the globalization undertaken in the 90s after the fall of the USSR, to divide into poles of power with the United States reigning in America, China in Asia, and Russia probably in Europe.
