I like to keep things light-hearted here, but I have a genuine fear that the internet is dying. It might as well be dead in Australia, UK, Europe, and possibly the US with these age verification things going on. I live in the US, if these things take effect here then I probably will not be able to live. Genuinely. I can't imagine what it would be like being born into this kind of society, let alone being one who knew what it was like in the "before-times". My entire livelihood is the internet, or requires the internet in some capacity. I genuinely would be in a much worse place if it weren't for the internet. So without it, I don't think I could keep on going. There isn't really a backup, many parts of life require the internet to do anything now, especially regarding government agencies and money. We thought the internet would be forever, and I bet many people still assume it will be the same except now "the kids are being protected" (no they're not). If age verification becomes a thing for pretty much all websites all over the world, then the internet might as well be shut down. I do not see an existence of a platform that is controlled by companies and redesigned to control us. I feel so fucking powerless.
I'm genuinely concerned about the state of the internet

The biggest issue is probably our growing reliance on being chronically online. The internet did many good things, but it did just as many bad things and now the governments try to take some form of control over what not so long ago was a wild west.
I remember when in my childhood going online for 1 or 2 hours was plenty enough, and I don't want to let nostalgia speak through me but I wish I could experience that when I was a teenager, when building friendships and learning to live in a society was most important. Online friendships have their place but now it seems like without different messenger apps many would become outcasts because of the lack of contact with other people.
In the end I believe that this is more about learning how to limit the influence of the internet on our lives, not so much about regulations. Still, I wish that in 10 years social awareness over such matters will be much better.

honestly i get this to an extent, but age verification isnt a way to like punish minors on the internet. its to prevent pedophiles from preying on children and to also benefit their mental health. in a perfect world we could have a system that is the opposite that keeps pedophiles offline, but its pretty much impossible. social media addiction is so bad in today's modern world and needs to be combatted somehow. its a large source/root for suicide rates in children and teens, coming from things like cyberbullying and expectations, etc. fuck, i wish the internet would blow up into a thousand pieces, it would benefit the world. but its not going anywhere, its very likely here to stay and not dying anytime soon.
I’m sorry, but please look up any video about the real implications of this act. It’s going to hurt everyone. Many of the people sponsoring it have openly said that they want to erase the existence of trans people with these bills. This is mass surveillance.

Do you have any specific sources that i can refer to and look at? No where in the original post mentioned any specific bill or legislation, plus nothing relating to specific people calling on transgender people, nor source so i think thats where the message could've been misconstrued. If you have some specific examples or links to helpful coverage, it'd be appreciated.
