ASAP/immediately: fill up anything you can with water before water runs out. call people to stay with and organise a plan. charge all electronics and look up info you might need (like this blog..)
day one: board up your house. you will be staying there for at least 2 weeks until it all calms down. organise everything and strategise how you will survive in the house without leaving (calorie plans, escape routes, etc) do NOT leave, because everyone else has had that idea and they WILL slime you for a can of baby corn
week one: follow your strategy and try to prepare as much as you can with your resources. pack, organise, whatever helps you stay calm and prepared
week 2: leave your house carefully and quietly, and find a new base. your neighbourhood is NOT safe anymore

depends on the rifle lass hunting and sniper rifles hold like a 5 clip, a bunch of pistols hold at least 15 but theyre smaller bullets
assault rifles are generally good all around if a bit heavier however consumes more ammo
for closer, moving hordes shotguns would be better for the scatter + range, rifles are typically good for one far away stationary target

i was using the wikipedia page on assault rifles specifically for this i was going to add another section about sniper rifles but then i didnt
