Lol, I dodged a bullet in not choosing Chile

As it stands, Chile's visa and residency regimes are the same as most other Latin American countries. You have to make a really good case to a company down there that they should hire you over one of their citizens or else you can't live and work there. Santiago's only international airport is not connected to one of their train lines and their money isn't THAT worth much more than the Argentinian peso, so that's three whole strikes against them there.

So right now, as I've apparently not keeping up with the news there, Chile has an election coming up and it's an apocalyptic one between a communist and a N*zi. It's darkly ironic that it's come to this considering that Allende wasn't even a communist himself and the Soviet bloc chose to use him as a "Lost Cause" to whine about while China backed Pinochet. The lady (too lazy to look up her name) is not likely to become another Castro or Maduro no matter how hard she tried because I know the Chilean people are too right-wing and conservative to ever let that happen.

Kast, on the other hand, is worse than Trump and Milei in almost every conceivable way. Unlike the other two, Kast is actually cunning and competent. It reminds me of how for me, Bolsonaro and Ron DeSantis are both Trump wannabes that are far scarier than Trump himself because they're both military men who do a far better job at doing evil things and thoroughly to boot.

I do not like Milei at all. I can't help but feel he and the Argentinian people got extremely lucky in an insane Simpsons episode sort of way. Everything he did should've failed, but the Trump bailout and temporary economic miracle seem to be working wonders for the country. For all of Milei's racism and xenophobia, Argentina is still far more open to foreigners than Chile.

See, the thing about American and British propaganda is that they don't mention that Chile is far less diverse than Argentina. Historically, the country received far fewer immigrants and most of their economy runs on just copper and finance. The copper is a resource curse just like oil for Venezuela and the finance part is an extremely new aspect brought about by the Pinochet regime.

Now, this isn't to say that Chile is bad or the worst country in the world, but there's far less about it that appeals to me on a fundamental level and it's not as tolerant of me as I would be of it. As for Santiago, what I've read about it suggests that it's like if Salt Lake City had no Mormons, if Denver was close to the coast, or if Seattle was dry and sunny. Is it cheaper and less stressful than trying to go to Disneyworld? Probably. But I'm going to Buenos Aires instead.
