Matter of Opinion

Today's subject is about something that is almost old news now. 

Charlie kirk.

When he died, my conservative family freaked out. My older brother called from Texas and was almost crying. My dad watched the video over and over of his death. My mom just couldn't believe it. 

Since my family lives in Phoenix, AZ, we went to the memorial service. I woke up at 4am and put on a dress that I hate to wear and we stood in crowds of mindless drones who worshiped this man. It was suffocating in those crowds. I felt like i was going to pass out. 

Worship was an hour long, so we all stood on our hurting feet and praised this god who seems to do nothing in the world. 

When the real service began, people couldn't stop talking about how great of a man, how great of a husband, how great of a father Kirk was. Every time they said that, I cringed. 

I didn't know too much about this man, but I knew how hateful he really was. How combative he was. How he tried to tell people who loved differently that they were sick in the head and were going to hell.

When Donald Trump came up, I felt sick. All of these white men worshiped Trump and then when Kirk died, all their gazes switched to him. 

One of the speeches talked about "the enemy" and talked about how the "radical left" is going to make your children queer. I felt so angry. All these people who are conservative are calling for blood and justice. It's not even queer people's fault.

I see stickers of Kirk's face on cars. I see slogans on t-shirts. I see people praising all of his work. 

A man's death was an excuse to sell useless objects to people who care. 

The revolution did not begin with him dying. 

The revolution itself committed suicide after a month. 

That man was not a good man. I feel bad for his children, to live without a father. I feel bad for his wife, to live without love.

But he was not a good man.
