i swear to fucking god man every time i open the "politics" tab on here i find takes that are so genuinely braindead that i gotta stand up and walk around for a bit to shake the feeling off. guys, books are free. please i'm begging you just open up a politics manual or something. this is not targeted at anyone or any ideology in particular (i've found posts made by both sides of the aisle that made me roll my eyes back into my head), it's just so genuinely frustrating when you find what seems to be a promising post and then you realize that the author's understanding of the subject boils down to something like "fascism is when government EVIL and BAD" or "communism is when 100 quadrillion dead... and NO IPHONE!!!"

fr like these topics are nuanced!! some ppl on here just do not get that. especially for my fellow americans like PLEASE just go read civics and government books!!! they're at your library just go and ask!!

I agree. It's so bad. People are too uninformed and to narrow in world view. It's always that "America bad bc orange man and no black woman" and not "America bad bc imperialist" (or something along those lines).
Americans on this app are the worst for it, their political understandings are more lukewarm than other americans on other apps or just really just anyone else.
The lack of theory is so astounding. The worse is when a level 1 woke person is reluctant to read say Karl Marx bc he's a "old white guy". It's infuriating
i swear americans are the biggest offenders, if i hear one more maccas land citizen say that liberals are "left wing" i'm gonna lose it!!! these people vote!!! for the love of god you're all carrying supercomputers in your pocket whip that shit out and at least try learning something about the political system you have to live in!!!

i believe the issue boils down to everybody thinking they need to have an opinion on everything, even things they don't understand. i guess it's admirable when people stand up for what they believe in, but if what they believe in is based only on feelings or misinfo rather than fact, it becomes frustrating, to say the least. i mean, sure, fascism isn't a type of government anyone with sense wants to live under, but what do you actually KNOW about it? and why do you think that stranger on the internet is a literal nazi just because they don't want immigrants in their country (not that i agree with that type of thing but xenophobia does not a nazi make). socialism and communism (at least, certain sects) would be beneficial to society... the only problem is no political leader has their peoples' best interests in mind, not truly. so anti-commies always bring up the "yeah, because communism has always worked sooo well" snark, totally missing the point.
i agree wholeheartedly. i personally made a bigger effort this year to educate myself on political matters and after getting through about 10 books i realized just how much i don't know. it was a humbling experience. it's okay to not comment when you don't know something for sure. i personally don't. but the sheer gall of certain posters on here (ahem ahem i think we both know who i'm talking about) is appalling.
