i finished reading the first five books of percy jackson a week or two ago. i've been wanting to do so since i was twelve because i was (and still am) a fan of greek mythology and found them interesting, but i couldn't get physical copies until last september. it took me a while to finish the first two books since i had to work in a few school projects, but luckily i went on spring break (aka one week break for me) a time later and finished the three remaining books during that time. this is my first "actual" blog and english isn't my first language, so sorry if there's any misunderstanding or if it's too short or inconsistent, i won't be too harsh or critical, i'm still learning. so, let's begin!
THE LIGHTNING THIEF
okay so let me tell you a short story: remember what i said about wanting to read the books since i was twelve? last year, when we were about to finish the school year, a classmate of mine brought with him the first book. i gave it a try and read the first chapter, and i liked it! it wouldn't be until 10 months later that i would manage to read it complete.
i liked Percy's monologue. i already knew a bit of the characters and story, and since i already knew about greek mythology, i thought it really made sense. i kept reading and my main thought was "man this book is like so sad bro" Sally Jackson the woman you are...
it wasn't until i was almost finished that i was really hanged on this book. i enjoyed the main trio interactions a lot and though i think it was mainly sad, it was a comfort reading. Percy is so me fr
THE SEA OF MONSTERS
its not like i remember or have a lot about this one i liked Tyson a lot and i was able to relate to the way Percy described his last school. boy he deserves a break. also Annabeth's character really grew on me in this book.
THE TITAN'S CURSE
Bianca di Angelo my sweet girl they will never make me hate you. gods forbid a girl gets offered the chance of becoming inmortal and hang out with her friends forever and accepts it... that doesn't mean i hate Nico. i actually love if a lot. doomed siblings will always have my heart, also my goat Thalia grace was here ❤️🩹
BATTLE OF THE LABYRINTH
i felt that things were, in fact, getting more serious. i was soooo invested in this book, and i loved Rachel, she did nothing wrong. the main trio is back guys!! (kinda) ugh i missed them. there's a bunch of things happening, as always... omg percabeth hiiiii 💔💔
this one definitely settled my love for the books! and it was around this time where i finally started drawing the characters
THE LAST OLYMPIAN
I WAS AT THE EDGE OF MY SEAT THE ENTIRE TIME BROOOO i also cried with the Annabeth, Thalia and Luke flashback, and all the book was so sad 💔 i feel so bad for basically all the cast, they did a few characters so dirty like Ethan #never again... and i loved Clarisse here. It really got comforting at the end at least for me...I loved this one so much
some random comments
by the third book, i started taking notes of my random thoughts and concerns(? about the books, for example in the titan's curse, where the hunters are portrayed as man haters and such... i lowkey get it but still, like men and women can't be just friends, but my mind decided to take it in more of a childish way, since they're like young girls if i'm not mistaken.
another concern of mine is how most gods are portrayed as unserious or comical, which can be ok since this is a book for pre-teens, maybe i was expecting them to be more reasonable during certain circumstances.
i wish we got more background about the demigods that fought for Luke, i SWEAR they did them SO DIRTY i cant do this okay
my conclusion:
i like this more as a fantasy book than a greek mythology based book, great. the demigods obviously carry all the story and even though it can be flawed, it's entertaining. i get why there's so many people that dislike the series. whenever i get into new media, the main thing that decides if i like it or not are the characters, how much can be left for imagination, their motives, how they can be relatable and feel genuine and memorable, and i think it achieves that! my head will basically "pull a fnafhs" (ojalá alguien entienda esto) and make things sound more logical and reasonable rather than most things actually are. with that begin said, i'm debating so bad if reading Heroes of the Olympus... I've heard a LOT of things regarding that series and it scares me.
BONUS: this #thing i made.

So so happy you enjoyed these books!! Ive loved them for years and always love to see others get into these books, have you heard that they've released more? That Rick has picked up the main trio again?
I guess you're talking about the senior year adventures, here's another story I wanted to tell: my mom wanted to get me the first book as a christmas gift for 2024, so she went to the bookstore and asked for the book, and the guy handed her the wrath of the triple goddess book, and I ended up receiving that one, when my mom found out, she felt disappointed and told me she would get me the first five books to start reading them. if I'm not mistaken, i only need chalice of the gods
