Hello everyone,
Today I am reintroducing an important community guideline that prevents
using alts and "sock puppet" accounts to manipulate ratings on the
website.
VidLii does not prohibit users from making multiple accounts - multiple
accounts can be useful for creating different channels for different
topics, for privacy, or just for fun.
With this in mind, we do still treat alts as all one user when it comes
to enforcing rules. For example, making an alt after you have been
banned is considered ban evasion. This covers most problems our
moderation team encounters when it comes to alts, but there was still
one set of issues that were left unaddressed.
From now on, using alts or "sock puppet" accounts to manipulate ratings -
such as video or comment ratings - or to get around limits like maximum
daily uploads, is against the rules. This rule will not effect the
majority of users. If you do have multiple accounts, we ask that you do not rate the same comment or video using multiple accounts.
Enforcement of this rule may vary on a case by case basis. In simple
cases where there is a clear main channel and a set of alts used
primarily for rating manipulation, we will ban the alts and issue a
strike to the main channel.
Much like our misleading titles and thumbnails rule, we made this rule
to keep the site fair for everyone, and we do not want to use it often.
We have some more fun things in the works that we want to share soon, so expect the next blog post to be more fun.
Happy Halloween! (Almost)
