To those who are starting bookbinding... (banana phone 69)

If you are getting into bookbinding, here's a precaution.

DO NOT USE THAT SEWING THREAD!!! YES THE ONE YOUR MAMA USES TO SEW CLOTHES!!! DON'T USE IT!!

Here is why based on my experience:

  1. It's thin even if you stack it twice or make a really big knot (dunno how to articulate this one)
  2. It may tangle, as always. See reason no. 1
  3. Sometimes you can't even tell separate threads apart. See reason no. 1 also.
  4. Combine 2 and 3, and your binding would look ugly as hell, and it wouldn't even hold up the signatures properly.
I feel like the only binding method suitable for this thread is the pamphlet method (like the first set I made). This applies to any binding method other that the pamphlet one.

I SWEAR TO EVERYTHING, that shit almost ruined my experience, I had to redo my binding because I just found out how to bind hardcovers.

Which led me to replace the French knot stitch on the second set with the Coptic one, because it's more simple and cleaner.

It was a shame, because the French knot looked way more beautiful. Even if it looked very shoddy with that basic ass thread and the signatures held loosely.

OKAY, with that out of the way, let's resume regular programming. How was I doing today, hmm...?

My needle went missing... but I can buy another one. Along with some wax linen thread. Finally!

I had just designed the back of the covers, and maybe I can start making the contents of the scrapbook before binding. Using that same set which I used to practice doing the French knot.

I'm also thinking of covering the spine with black paper. That's it.

Basically... I just learned how to bind the covers, along with the signatures and now my progress has gone back. But it's okay, because I learned something new. :)
