Gore, the Human Body, and Art

THIS POST IS SAFE FROM IMAGES AND IS JUST DISCUSSION

I think the human body is beautiful in all of its strange ways. It's interesting to think that we are just sentient meat. Meat as meat and meat as beauty. It's something I have been thinking about often and don't really talk about with others because I'm not a freak. Well I am but that's not the point. I think our bodies are strange and unusual in many ways. In a lot of my posts I talk about art because that's honestly the main thing I am interested in, so everything in this post will tie back to that.

I feel like a lot of gore art is told off as scary or distasteful or even too real depending on the piece. But it is the human form is it not? What happens after we die (this time to the body and not referencing the afterlife) is real and happens. Bloating, rot, decay, becoming one with the earth. But at what point do we stray away from art? At what point does art become reality or too close to it? I feel like real films or depictions of gore can be too far to be considered art and would to me just be considered torture.

What if everything is fake and depicts the horrifying nature of being murdered? Is that still too far? Honestly maybe. Fake snuff could possibly be considered art but is definitely not something I want to personally engage in. There is also a line that needs to be drawn with consuming that kind of content and what is healthy for an individual, however, if people want to seek out fake gore they should be allowed that.

Perhaps the reason people are so drawn to this type of art is in the taboo nature of it or even the harsh realities we face today. It’s some form of outlet for fears we can not otherwise express than in the fragility of our own form and life. Maybe people even like it just because they have dark fantasies.

I find the human form to be extremely beautiful, maybe through the eyes of an artist more than anything else. The forms and shapes and lines we create just by moving is incredible. The forms underneath are also beautiful. The blood as life force, the muscle grains, the bones. I could go on. But at the end of the day we are just flesh. Really resistant yet fragile flesh. I am meat and so are you.

And that’s all I have for now :) thanks for reading everyone

I totes agree, we are not as much seamlessly painted skins with cotton inside, but just a system of grouped up under grouped up cells fumbling through to survive, killing and death are ideas inheret to our existence in this cycle of survival, so i think its reasonable people's want to see art portray life in such core forms jsjsjs
