The Downfall Of The TikTok APP (DEEP-DIVE) Capitalism & True Crime... Today I talk to you about, TikTok has become a leading player among short form video social apps since its inception in 2017. Launched by Chinese-owned company ByteDance, TikTok is a video creation, discovery, and sharing platform. Content has since evolved to include viral shorts videos, user generated content, TikTok challenges, inspirational content, behind-the-scenes footage, and more! The app’s downloads in 2019 surpassed Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat. By January 2020, users in their teens accounted for 37.2% of TikTok's active user accounts in the U.S. People aged 20 to 29 years were the second-largest user group. To date, TikTok has been downloaded from the App store more than 2.6 billion times worldwide and boasts more than 1 billion monthly active users. Perhaps TikTok’s main selling point is its well curated "For You Page" (fyp in TikTok lingo) of short-form videos. Social media users are no stranger to this format. Vine, for one, which basically used to be tiktok before tiktok was actual created arguably popularized these types of posts. 6-second Vines turned everyday people into overnight sensations and populated the meme community with fresh viral content, While Vine failed to keep up with its competitors’ new features, TikTok’s roster of sound effects, songs, filters, and interaction tools unlock new creative opportunities for its users. In fact, TikTok has done what Vine could not, and continued to evolve while maintaining its loyal user base. Users on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter may well run out of new video material after scrolling for some time, but YouTube as well as the TikTok algorithm ensures never-ending video content.

The platform is also increasingly being used by brands, influencers, and celebrities to cross-promote their content and reach new audiences. It's a hot spot for influencer marketing, Some influencers who have gained popularity on TikTok include: Lil Nas X became famous on TikTok by uploading his song "Old Town Road" and using it to start the Yeehaw Challenge, Tabitha Brown became popular on TikTok by sharing videos of herself cooking vegan recipes She has also shined a light on Black veganism, bringing more awareness to the community, Ash Trevino TikTok Drama,

TikTok is finally entering its flop era and rightfully so, So what exactly happened exactly? There is blatant evidence that TikTok has been accused of viral censorship of creators and videos and flawed content moderation that can lead to false takedowns and account suspensions and bans for no reason, even for educational information. Concerns about these practices have been raised by users, researchers, and journalists. Reports of overreaching shadowbanning and censorship on TikTok, including the suspension of accounts and shadowbanning of educational content, are widespread. Creators report that the platform's moderation are outright inconsistent, lacks transparency, and disproportionately affects certain communities and people of color. Research published in August 2025 found that marginalized social media users reported experiencing shadowbanning, which they attributed to the platform's deliberate suppression of their content. Black creators have accused TikTok of censorship, Multiple recent reports, user allegations, and internal policy documents have provided evidence of TikTok's censorship and shadowbanning of political content related to anti capitalism, communism, socialism, marxism leninism, free Palestine tiktok content, Reports have documented cases of TikTok videos being removed, views dropping, and accounts being restricted, Some leftist creators believe their content is suppressed to avoid alienating brands and advertisers,
TikTok has gotten backlash for the practice of “boosting attractive people.” Following an internal investigation, documents revealed that TikTok adjusted its algorithm to “reduce visibility” of those they do not deem attractive here has been a growing discussion and debate surrounding the social concept of pretty privilege, Online predators are a documented problem on TikTok, and child influencers are particularly vulnerable to their tactics, TikTok promotes the problematic exotic pet trade through viral trends that glamorize ownership of wild animals Viral videos often create a curated and false narrative of exotic pet ownership. They show the "cute" side of the animal while omitting the negative aspects, TikTok has received significant backlash for viral challenges prompting lawsuits, Sydney Sweeney American Eagle ad the ad was criticized for being tone deaf, ETC!!!
