Talk With God (Not To God)

Sometimes prayer feels like sending message after message to someone who never replies. I think a lot of us know that silence.

But here’s the truth: prayer was never meant to be one-sided. God not only listens — He responds. The real question is, are we slowing down enough to recognize His voice?

God’s Voice Isn’t Always Loud

The Bible shows us this again and again. Samuel didn’t realize God was calling him at first. Gideon kept asking for proof. David cried out, “Why are You silent?” Elijah expected thunder or fire, but God showed up in a gentle whisper.

Moses, though, spoke with God “as a man speaks with his friend.” That’s what prayer is meant to be — not just us talking to Him, but walking in conversation with Him.

Why We Sometimes Feel the Silence

It doesn’t always mean something is wrong with you. The enemy knows that if you hear God’s voice, you’ll follow Him — and that makes you a threat. That’s why doubt and distraction hit hardest when you’re trying to pray.

Practical Ways to Open the Conversation

  • Quiet the noise. Silence gives space for God to fill.
  • Ask clear questions. Direct prayers invite direct answers.
  • Use Scripture. Sometimes His reply is waiting in the very words you’re reading.
  • Write it down. Journaling helps you see patterns you’d otherwise miss.

Final Thought

God’s voice isn’t competing with the noise. It’s waiting in the whisper. The only question is: will you make space to listen?
