don't know what i expected from her, but it wasn't this. honestly, i need to realize that white allies are white before they're allies. their privilege will always come first. i am so disappointed in emma watson that i can't even begin to express it. it's one thing to claim that you are against bigotry and another to become a turncoat in such a spineless manner for your favorite bigot who doesn't even want a glimpse of you in their life and downplay it as nothing other than a 'difference' in opinions. that statement itself is nothing but enabling oppression, which is so ridiculous when you claim to be against said oppression. enabling an oppressor MAKES you an oppressor. this isn't a difference in opinions or matters, this is your judgement on whether someone's rights/life is valuable or not. i get that rowling may have been apart of her life for a huge while, but sometimes you need to grow a moral backbone and stop infantilizing grown adults with no moral compass, if others can distance themselves from her, so can you. it's so boggling to me just how performative she turned out to be in the end. hanging onto a strained relationship like that, albeit one could barely call it a relationship at this point, just a loose thread only she's hanging on. just makes you look even more spineless. i really thought she'd have a stronger moral backbone.
i'm honestly rendered speechless. i have so much to say, but i'm so tongue tied.
yet again, what do i expect from white performative allies? it really is just minorities vs. the world at the end of the day.
