Heyo! I’ve recently begun working on a video essay that I think will be pretty great, so before I go any further, I wanted to ask; What do you like to see in video essays? What do you NOT like to see in them? Any specific issues that irk you, or make the video absolutely great to listen to/watch?
Just was curious! Would love to hear what y’all think!

I would say that I enjoy video essays that offer unique perspectives or explain a niche topic to someone who knows nothing about it (like me), and I 2nd Ghost's comment as well
Thanks for the response man! That makes a lot of sense- I’m the same way, and love Niche topics so much. Hopefully what I’m cooking is niche enough. XD

idk about others but im not a fan of when the narrator/creator goes off on tangents about things that feel unrelated but still fall under the umbrella of the topic. Then I just feel like its clickbait and I clicked on the video to see uhhhh idk lets use batman as an example, when I click on a video to hear about why Stephanie Brown failed as a robin, and then the whole thing is just telling the history of batman up until Steph cuz like... I already know that. I know the story. I'm clicking to hear your opinion, not a retelling. BUT if its a BRIEF. I repeat, BRIEF retelling, and you tell me why all the other robins worked, and then return to why Steph didn't, then thats great, that's fine! I also rlly like when (now I'm gonna use mcr as an example) lets say your watching a video about the downfall of MCR and it starts talking about all their problems, and Gerard's drug problem as an example, and how that might've affected it, and you have VIDEO/AUDIO EVIDENCE!!!!! PLLEEASSEEEEEE use evidence and show it! bc lets be real, sometimes you get sick of the main narrator and you need a new voice, even if its only for a moment.
oh jeez holy novel batman sorry if you're reading all that

You're good!!! Thank you for going out your way to respond with concise points! I see what you mean about derailing the intended subject with something unrelated, and how not providing proofs for your points can be a pain. I'll do my best to avoid that in my work!
