so like any college there is a fuck ton of neurodivergent people and in a very big and wide spectrum, but here is the situation, my college is NOT prepared or has the proper tools or management for students that have a more noticeable neurodivergence or are closer to the neurodivergent side in the spectrum, this is noticeable because of how the teachers will deal with these type of students, they have very little patience for them and the programs in our school are not the friendliest either and here is the thing, my school technically never claimed to be friendly fot neurodivergent people, which is fine, but the thing is that my school practically expects US the students to be like counsellors/teachers/therapist/wikipedia for them which is a big no; don’t get me wrong, i fully comprehend having certain needs (fidget toys, headphones, non-verbal cards, breakdown breaks, etc.) and it’s completely understandable and valid; but this is what i mean, my school will go out of it’s way to make these students stop using all these tools if they are distracting the class, and from the teachers point i understand, as said before, my school never claimed to be neurodivergent friendly so it’ll continue like a regular college, but it gets to a point that it’s frustrating to see; it feels like people trying to communicate in different languages that you understand but these two people don’t understand each other mutually and they don’t want your opinion or help.
and as i’ve said before, they want us to be like their guides but bro, we are all adults, we are all in college, i would feel like I’m babying another person by how much they want us to do to help them or give attention to them, and the max i’m giving is my upmost patience because (as i’ve mentioned in my profile) i’m probably also in the spectrum and i can barely deal with my own emotions and how i deal with them in my daily life to be worrying about others; also we are in college, we are all adults, i can’t be giving step by step instructions IN COLLEGE, i get explaining shit cause sometimes the wording for assignments is batshit crazy, but to tell people what they need to do every step of the way is impossible, we all have our own responsibilities; this is why i’m frustrated with my school, i would never hold it against the students cause we were born the way we are and how they were raised ain’t my business, but I CAN be pissed at my school for expecting other fellow students that don’t have the knowledge or tools to help them, and also not taking into account our other responsibilities in these situations; or giving any sort of counseling or extra help classes to the people who need it; it’s and endless cycle.
(+ as mentioned before, because i’m probably also on the spectrum i also can get frustrated in certain situations and have to put boundaries but because I mask pretty decently and don’t “act neurodivergent”, to outsiders it could look like i’m an asshole when in reality i’m just respecting my boundaries ex: i don’t like that random people that i’m not close to touch me or are close to me or my personal space, but if i voice it or act on it people could assume i’m avoiding them or that i hate them or that i'm ableist)
