to be honest with you i am not feeling that great, my guys.  my sleep schedule is whack as fuck because I crazy with the schizophrenia (witerawwy) hopefully some alani nu and mudsic surfing can bring me back to life. some new to me some old to me some new to the world like a baby lamb fresh in spring some not so new. but always hot and fresh and served up for you on a steaming silver platter... let's dig in.

gingerbee - apiary (2025)
genre: chamber pop, art rock, screamo
FFO: midori, lefty fish
rating: 9/10

this band includes a wide array of influences on one succinct EP. they started off as a band powerfully with 2023's Our Skies Smile featuring some jaunty chamber pop and jazz rock with a tinge of screamo, though the instrumentation I would not call emo in the slightest. this current album from gingerbee makes for an unexpected twist on some lesser explored genres on the current music front. I would recommend the whole EP as a petite but sweet treat for your ears, as linked above. my favorite accoutrements happen to be the wind instruments and the piano. like I said, they are forging new territory in a super fun way. waiter, more of that, please!

fleshwater - 2000: In search of the endless sky (2025)
genre: post-hardcore, grungegaze
FFO: julie, narrow head
rating: 8/10

the gazers are doing their gazing, and they're doing it unfocused and longingly. this album wistfully laments a near future of sound that is familiar yet different enough compared to their other release that you keep paying attention. I'll admit it didn't catch my ear a whole bunch upon first listen, but has since grown on me. I upgraded my rating from a 7.5 to an 8. PITCHFORKS BEST NEW MUSIC TEEHEE. me and pitchfork writers R besties but they don't know it it's sort of a parasocial relationship we have going on in which I generally agree with what they got going on about music. (embarrassing) I love when this band starts yellin' their heads off in a post-hardcore type of way, they should continue to do more of that. maybe I'm biased but I really like yellin' and screamin'. songs I would recommend: jerome town, jetpack, be your best, green street

dolly mixture - other music (recorded 1978-1984)
genre: twee pop, indie pop
FFO: heavenly, beat happening
rating: 7/10

i think the go-betweens are listed as the first official twee band of the movement according to rateyourmusic, though dolly mixture banded around the same time. punk broke in '77 and twee was the soon-after quaint checkered tablecloth picnic basket of an answer to the macho innuendo of the punk movement. dolly mixture are an all girl band, harkening to girl groups like the shangri-las of decades prior if they wore striped stockings and anoraks and crooned about being "a hit with the boys, Jane". they also covered femme fatale and have composed their own sweet little ditties such as "our tune". I also love when there are little nods to other twee groups within their music, pay attention to that. they have other music that is not on spotify (I'm lazy) such as the first track I linked above that are equally as infectious as their original compositions that I already knew. this particular comp is a favorite of mine as this band can be really hit or miss for me, maybe that's why they don't have as many streams as other twee bands such as talulah gosh. you may find that they lack the precocious energy of such bands as well. I linked their John Peel Session from 1979, and if you are in the know you know what I am talking about when I mention that, cause obvi anything John was associated with from this movement was pure gold.

true blue - edge of (2018)
genre: synth pop, dream pop
FFO: tamaryn, frankie rose, cowgirl clue
rating: 10/10

true blue is an example of an ethereal artist that has been on the rise since the late 2010's; edge of being just one small example of her dream world, and I think she deserves to blow up even more than she already has. Maya Laner is known for playing bass in indie band Porches but her skills are developed far beyond just a supporting role. not only is she a bassist but a producer and vocalist as well. I haven't been able to find much info on her as an artist so forgive me if I get some info wrong. I'm just going on what I have learned over the years of following her on social media l-o-l. most recently she produced a cover of cherry-coloured funk that is daring and explorative, and might I say I enjoy it more than the original. sorry. just not a cocteau twins fan here but def check it out even if you are! edge of is an artifact of Maya's talent as an artist and visionary, and cherry-coloured funk among her other recent singles are further proof that she has the chops. true blue is still creating opalescent, creamy, and fluffy textures on the production side of things and I can't wait til she releases a full album if she decides to do that. I think by now she could have some really cool features as she is associated with the indie scene of the late 2010's now, as well as the electronic scene. I would recommend this whole EP.

yo yo yo let me know if you liked it or if you wanna bash me in the head with a hammer for my crimes against music teehee... whatever, I'm gonna keep making these. slowly like a turtle. wisely like a tortoise.
