Scroll to very bottom if you're only interested in what I have to say as a mod and about the bans.
It has been awhile since I spoke out my thoughts on something. Mostly because of a combination of nothing really going on that leads me to my deep thoughts and depression and medication have been keeping me from being my usual brooding self.
First off I will get this out of the way: I am disgusted by the amount of people cheering on for the death of Charlie Kirk. I don't care who he is, what he said, or anything of that nature, I respect human life and I will feel sadness when I hear someone had their life taken away.
I will admit I never knew much about him, years ago I heard about him but brushed him off as just another right leaner who's whole gimmick is "epically pwning le liberals" so I never paid attention to him. With everything I hear people saying that seems to be the worse he has ever done, debate the other side and getting famous for it. So knowing he did not kill anyone, there was no reason for him to die, the man did nothing but use his freedom of speech to say things regardless of being hated by those who disagree.
Which brings me to the reason of making this blog, I am seeing A LOT of people treat him as if he did kill people and argue he deserved it for everything he has said. I do support the first amendment so of course I heavily disagree that anyone has to die just over what they believe in or what they say. I see some people arguing that "words are murder" and that everything he stood for costs the lives of others, an example I see of him saying some people have to die for us to have our second amendment. I disagree words are murder, the way I see it is people are already the type of person to kill others, words just happen to be one of the many things that could convince them to finally act on something they already feel. But regardless, you have the right to say whatever is on your mind, and it is not your responsibility if someone takes your words and decides to take it to the extreme and act on it. As for him saying people will have to die, I feel like it is nothing more than an ugly truth. I am sure the majority of people don't want to die but regardless of if guns are banned, controlled, or freely distributed, gun violence will still exist as long as guns exist. But that's just my thoughts, I have no way of knowing for sure if he meant it as an ugly truth or something he doesn't mind.
Now this is probably going to get me the most hate but I feel like there is hypocrisy going on here. I have also seen people cheer for his death while explaining they are happy a fascist is dead. Honestly I have no clue at all why anyone would think that as like I said, he is simply a man who simply expresses opinions to college kids and his online fans. Fascism is a dictatorship, anyone who is fights for free speech is most likely not a fascist. Along with that a saying keeps popping up into my head about how those of accuse and shame others for something, that person is likely guilty of it themself. Now I am going to be doing a lot of assuming here as a good majority of the userbase here lean left and it isn't uncommon I will see people claim to be communists, but people cheering "yay the fascist is dead!" makes me believe they are guilty of being anti free speech and would love for America to become a dictatorship. As long as their side is in charge that is.A man lost his life and people are cheering for it, they are labeling him awful things to dehumanize him, this is no different from what dictators do to kill off anyone who is a threat to their government and power. Being happy for this death is only normalizing ways for America to lose it's identity and became an authoritarian state. We should not be living in a society that disrespects life only due to political reasonings.
Okay time to speak as a mod. There has been A LOT of reports on people celebrating Charlie Kirk's death. According to the rules:
Safety
You are not allowed to display, share or promote any form of
- Violence
- Abuse
- Harassment
- Hateful speech
- Harmful content (including self-harm and suicidal content)
- Illegal/unlawful content
Now I will admit the moderation is a little messy, some of us have been debating or pointing out if it was appropriate to out right ban someone rather than removing the post. I can't speak for the other mods so all I can do is explain how I've been handling things and hope that offers transparency.
Mods cannot unban, it has never been stated why, but if you believe your ban wasn't justified, you'll have to go to An to ask and see what his judgement is.

I 100% agree with this post and course of action. The media was even saying he was dead before he flat-lined and it was insensitive to say the least.

What happened to Charlie Kirk was completely unjustifiable. No one should have to worry about being murdered for their political beliefs.
That said, Iβm not going to pretend that he was an innocent party to the problem with political violence in America.
The reason why is because he was part of the problem while he still lived. He sponsored the rioters who viciously attacked Capitol Hill security personnel on January 6, 2021.
You donβt get to have a role in the normalization of political violence and expect the problem not to come back to bite you later.
If you donβt believe me, you can check out this news article for yourself.
