"Protecting my peace"

How do I even start.

Okay so basically everyone is obssesed with protecting their peace and putting themselves first and ensuring nobody comes in the way of their happiness. I'm all for that really trust me. I just feel like in 2025 moderation is a thing of the past. Everything feels extreme and middle grounds dont exist you must pick a side or geg lost entirely. Now obviously I should get to the point on how this relates to "protecting your peace" and living for one's self. SO MANY PEOPLE ARE SO SELFISH. I literally saw this girl on tiktok talking about how she doesn't want to go to her friends wedding so she cancelled even though she's one of the bridesmaids and I was like wait what. And her defense was that she's been really tired and it seems like a bore. This isn't the only case where I've seen someone just not want to turn up for their friends or inconvenience themselves  for their friends in the name of they don't owe anyone anything or they are protecting their peace. I'm a firm beliver in the fact that you should live your life a bit selfishly because at the end of the day you came to the world alone....but in the same vein the whole point of being a person's friend is learning how to sacrifice and inconvenience yourself for someone you enjoy being around and like and them doing it back to you. If you can't find people worth suffering for then you will forever be alone.
