My opinion on the online safety act in the UK.

Please note that this is my own opinion and thoughts on the online safety act.

I do think we should protect the children online an stuff like that but having to ID verify to listen to music and such is a bit to far, like what do you mean you now have to be 16 and over to listen to music that isn't exactly child friendly?! I have friends in the UK and soon i can barely talk to them anymore? I understand it with 18+ websites but other apps like YT, Spotify (and Wiki if I'm correct) and SpaceHey now is unnecessary in my opinion, you're basically not letting people learn about stuff that schools don't teach you like wtf??? And some calls will be listened into if you're talking for over 10 min that's privacy invading. Now (from what i think) the UK government is blocking mental health forums, info sites, sexual health support websites (and also LGBTQ+ things)

What I find ironic is that this is the kind of thing I would've expected Germany to require first out of any Western democracy. I don't think even Russia and China require government IDs for basic Internet access. Britain has been deteriorating for a while. Their inequality keeps getting worse and the government has responded by getting more authoritarian.
Britain used to brag about being one of the "freest" European countries, but now I think all and any analogies to Putin's Russia or some authoritarian monarchy in the Middle East are appropriate at this point.

That's not a mistake. The act is working exactly how it's intended to. It's not a tool to protect children and it never was- PARENTS are supposed to protect the children, not the government. The CSA is a weapon of mass censorship. If you want to access anything the UK deems as "not child friendly"- i.e. the news, politics, lgbtq+ and a lot more important topics- you need to give them a means of recognizing you by face.
