I don't mean something like "oh, we need to get rid of the corruption." I mean like, full on factory reset the government because this entire place is corrupt and we need to toss it in the trash.
The GOP have been getting worse and worse since 1987 when the Fairness Doctrine was repealed, and the Democratic Party are just radical centrists who are bought out by big corporations. Any third party? Good luck, because they aren't getting far.
The electoral college needs to be abolished. Why should only a select group of people be able to decide the fate of the US instead of the entire population? It gives us the illusion of choice when in reality, we don't have much of a choice.
Political parties need to be thrown out the window unless they can do an entire overhaul and begins ACTUALLY listening to the needs of the people. Republicans need to focus on the economy and what would actually benefit it, instead of trying to control what everyone does in their own lives. Democrats need to stop being so damn performative and get a back down and a solid plan. The alt-right has P2025, so Democrats need to get a plan together that not only benefits the people but also sway independents and some republicans to their side.
Like, for example: Public Transit. Yes, it would cost tax dollars to fund adding more public transit, especially in more rural parts of America. On the other hand, it would create jobs and help the economy. You need people to build the infrastructure for public transit (Railroads, train stations, bus stops, roads, sidewalks, etc.) You need people to maintain the infrastructure. You need people to operate the buses and trains. You need people building the buses and trains, especially if one crashes and needs to be replaced.
There are obviously some topics that they would have to compromise on, like the matter of funding the police. People on the left do not want to fund the police or want it to be reformed, people on the right do not. A middle ground to this would be to fund the police, but:
1. Put in place curriculums that would aide in teaching aspiring police trainees to spot potential suspects that are not based on appearance, add upon how to properly handle a delicate situation and how to properly hold down a suspect without causing injury or worse, death.
2. Have a third-party conduct undercover investigations to ensure that all cops are abiding by the law and are conducting themselves ethically.
3. Put laws in place that could prevent or, at the very least, dissuade them from hiding evidence of misconduct, e.g. they cannot turn off their bodycams when they are engaging with suspects.
4. Having on-site therapists (for any first responder) at their workplace.
That aside, I also believe that the checks and balances systems needs to be heavily reenforced or thrown out for a stronger system to keep the government in it's place. For example, I don't think the president, or anyone in power, should have immunity from ALL crimes. If the crimes had to do with the election or were felony, the president should be tried for those crimes in a court of law.
Speaking of elected officials, we need to have qualifications put in place so we don't have random billionaires running the place. I personally think that you need to have a degree to enter the sphere of politics, a bachelor's degree or higher in the following fields:
-Political Science
-History
-Communications
-Law
The same should also apply for any elected position and position of power. They should have an education and job experience in the position they are in, like The Secretary of the Treasury should have a degree in Finance and have worked a job where they were in charge of large sums of money (e.g. a bank)
Another thing I'd like to mention is that we need to push hard for a *certain* list to be revealed. Republicans are on it? Great! Democrats too? Amazing! Big corporation CEOs that have been worming their way into policy, positions of power and/or have been ruining healthcare, malls, buying homes, etc. for years? Even better! Expose. Them. All.
Let's be entirely real for a moment here; By not releasing those files, it will only make them look even worse than they already do. Why vote to not release the files if it has nothing to do with them? It makes them look like they were either on the list or have buddies on that list that they want to protect, which makes them look guilty either way.
People want those files to be released. They want to know who in was involved in one of the biggest high-profile crimes in this day and age. They want to know who to not vote for and who to not support because most people don't want to vote for someone involved in something THAT horrendous.
Personally, I believe that Democrats need to start stepping up and playing the game the Republicans are playing. The Republicans have played dirty, Democrats need to start playing that game even better than the Republicans. Have a plan that a lot of people will be able to get on board this, take real action instead of just performative and take back power.
With everything going on, playing by the rules isn't working and the reason why people are hesitant to swap sides is because the Democrats aren't portraying themselves as a stable, united front. They need to come together, properly educate voters and do whatever it takes to win.
IDK, I'm just tired of all of this. Just throw the whole damn landmass of the US away atp.
