It's practically impossible to find a good free VPN lol, but I have used the free version of Proton VPN and its honestly great, for a free version you get basically what you need. However the paid version will always be better I just can't afford it and only use it every once ina while so i dont need it that much. Pretty sure you get like 7 countries coverage.

there's no such thing as a safe free VPN, I recommend saving up to get one (its a lot cheaper if you pay yearly rather than by month), im personally looking into the paid version of proton VPN or surfshark.
However I get that it's easier said than done to buy one, so until you can I've heard good things about the free version of proton, and I personally use the built in VPN for opera browser, it's not the most secure but it's pretty speedy for a free service, if you want to minimalize data farming I'd recommend only using the VPN for sites you wouldn't be able to access otherwise and turning it off when you're done
