Making a Long Furby

~Looong Furby <3~

I finally got around to making another long furby. I have one already that I made in 2020, pictured below. Her name is Pestilence, she's about 1.5 metres long, a Taurus, and loves going to conventions with me!

But this post isn't about her. It's about her new little brother!

Every long furby starts with the spine, and this time I 3d printed my own armature. I'm thinking about making long furbies to sell, so I spent a lot of time testing different designs and stress testing. I landed on the white design, and it's held up pretty okay to my stress testing, but as a result of all the testing my new furb's spine is a little loose. That's okay, it adds character. The spine ended up pretty short, I was inspired to make a small long furby.

Next I sewed together some skin. I went with the same fur that I used for Pestilence, since I had a lot left over. I also had some nice rainbow tie-dye fabric that I thrifted ages ago, which I picked for the stomach. It's very soft, I'd wanted to use that one for ages. My sewing machine doesn't handle fur well, so I had to hand-sew everything.

With the skin done, I added the flesh and the head. I 3d printed the face plate for this furb (Pestilence is a real furby) since he was going to be much smaller than a standard furby width. I painted the face paint with some cheap acrylic paint and put resin on the eyes to make them look shiny. I get my furby stuffing from thrifted pillows.

And so behold! My wonderful son! His name is Kino (inspired by Stargate Universe, which I was watching while sewing his head on), he is a Cancer and he isn't very flexible. All his stuffing tends to force his weak spine back into the straight position so he doesn't sit still very well. I may give him more feet in the future, but that is undecided. I adore him greatly.
