Hello everyone, this translation is going to be a little different from normal... I am translating this poem in honor of my favorite writer Nihat Genç, who unfourtunately passed away five days ago, losing his battle against lung cancer. He influenced many aspects of how I think about things and I am really glad I met him when I did, I even have a picture with him that I will not be posting because of my anonimity. He was a man who lived life with all of his emotions, he was true to himself, not one to shy away from confrontation, perhaps he is best known for his emotional speeches and angry outbursts on television or on his youtube channel, confronting something he deems unjust. He was a sort of ancient man, a man with principle, an idealist, a fiery Turkish nationalist who stood by his beliefs not because of money, power or another thing but because he genuinely believed it. His last words were "Protect the Republic." He wrote this poem in 1990 after the 1990 flooding of Trabzon [his homecity (he is also from Erzurum on his mother's side)] in which 48 people lost their lives. The poem was later covered as a folk song by Fuat Saka on his album "Lazutlar Livera" in 2015, I will be linking the song in the end. Unfourtunately I can't find a full version of the poem I could link in the end so I will be writing its Turkish version here. His wiki will also be listed.

Yayla Zamanı/ Highland Season*
Highland season it came
Highland season it came
A ship to Trabzon
A ship came
It loaded up the mountains and left

Highland season it came
Highland season it came
A ship to Trabzon
A ship came
It collected the stars and left

*:Highland Season is where in rural Anatolia (Eastern Black Sea Region cities like Trabzon are very much known for this) people temporarily migrate to the highlands, setting up tent and indulging in animal husbandry in the summer season. (The flood struck on June 10th, hence why the author named it Highland season)
