America is a continent (Eng/esp)

Entiendo el chiste de "Are you American?", pero pierde todo el sentido humorístico si la persona que hace el chiste ni siquiera tiene el conocimiento de la diferencia ente EE.UU y América. Pues si soy sincera, solo he visto dos masas que desconocen está básica de la geografía, y estas son los Estadounidenses y los Europeos. 

Así que es una de dos, o los europeos desconocen de geografía y piensan que EE.UU es igual a un continente entero como es América, o los europeos ven al continente entero como una bola de estúpidos. Pero honestamente, ya se sabe que son los dos.

Esto es una problemática que ya lleva tiempo y está instalada culturalmente, pero si uste dice "Are you American?" Lamento decirle que uste tampoco es el más listo que digamos.

(No pensé tener que aclarar esto, pero no le hablo a uste de forma específica, si uste es europeo y no piensa igual, está bien. Esto va a los, como les decimos en chile, aweonaos.)

America is a continent. I understand the "Are you American?" joke, but it loses all humor if the person making the joke doesn't even understand the difference between the US and America. Well, if I'm honest, I've only seen two mass-groups of people who ignore this basic geography, and those are people from the US and Europeans.

So it's one of two things: either Europeans don't know geography and think the US is the same as an entire continent like America, or Europeans see the entire continent as a bunch of idiots. But honestly, it's already known that it's both.

This is a long-standing and culturally ingrained problem, but if you say "Are you American?" I'm sorry to say you're not exactly the smartest person either.

(I didn't think I'd have to clarify this, but I'm not speaking to you specifically. If you're European and don't think the same, that's fine. This is for the, as we say in Chile, "aweonaos" (which is our way to say stupid).)
