Spacehey Present and Future

I joined this website 3 years ago (according to the front page, anyway).  I was excited about it too.  The thought of finally getting Myspace back was right in my face.  The themes were back.  The playing music on the profile was back, granted that took a little work.  There wasn't an exact "Top 8" like in the OG, but I'm sure it could be reworked if needed.  I don't think that was a bad thing anyway.  It was going to feel like the old days again.

It never took off.

Now, I'm not saying this site is going to die tomorrow.  I do, however, feel like the website is on borrowed time, though.  It's a shame too, because this site is great.  But, for me, it never got back to the Myspace level and that's mostly because my irl friends never made the move over.  I'm not knocking them for it either, as people have other priorities and other sites to attend to, so that is what it is.  But it's disappointing to advertise "Myspace is back" on the other big social media sites and see that not a single other person came over.  I'm not shocked about that, mind you, but that's was a huge blow and it pretty much sucked the fun out of the site.

But wait, what about the 1000s of other users on Spacehey that aren't my friends?  My biggest issue with the site is that you don't know who is who on here.  People can lie through their teeth on their profile, say they're x years old and whatever sex they are and it can be a complete lie.  I think the phrase is catfish.  I think?  It's easier when you can find people locally to talk to like you could in the Myspace days.  I haven't found that option on here and it seems like any random profile is one I'm closing or backing out of for one reason or another.  About the only excitement (if you want to call it that) on this site that I get is updating the music.  The views aren't there, the people aren't there.  What's the point?

I'm not the biggest fan of responding to forums/posts nowadays either.  A lot of the time I don't know what to add that others have already added.

As far as the future goes, I may drop the site at some point down the road.  Honestly, this site, well, social media as a whole, isn't fun anymore.  The days of surveys are long gone and anytime you do one, it's glossed over or lord knows what people think of you doing them in 2025.  I think An does a great job with the site, but the support to keep it growing just isn't there.  It could always turn around, but it's looking bleak.  I rarely see it promoted anymore on Twitter and people don't really talk about it unless Myspace is brought up.  Then people regurgitate how they wish they had Myspace back.  And they now have Myspace back.  But they don't want to go through the work, so they don't go back when they can.  Then the talk dies down.  The asshole count across every site has gone up 200% over the years, which is also a major buzzkill.  Ugh.

I'm tired.

Anyway, I'm here today.  Maybe gone tomorrow, next week, a month, maybe not at all.  But if this place does go under at some point, it will be nice to have gone back to the good ole' days of Social Media for a little while anyway.

partially agree, when i first joined (also 3+ years ago) i rlly did think it was going to blow up. but the interface/coding rlly turns off a lot of ppl who aren't willing to put in the work. with that i wasn't around (i was a kid) to have a myspace account so i have nothing to base this off of, but i do kinda like that it is fairly small. small followings, a little bit of people, but real interactions, even if i may not respond to every post, i do enjoy reading everyone's bulletins or whatever. it does take effort into regularly posting for that interaction but once that connection is established there's always a good 1-5 people who genuinely look forward to that interaction which is nice 3.

While the site wasn't all that is cracked up for me, personally, it's good when people are still finding enjoyment in it. I think my love for social media as a whole doesn't help my take on SpaceHey (it's been a few weeks, so I already mostly forgot what I posted in this thing lol) but, agreed, it is a great site if the effort is put into it.
